    Hey there,

I have always gone to the hairdressers to get highlights, but just like many people - its getting a bit expensive!! I bought a Nice'n Easy bottle of dye. I just did a strand test and it came out fine but Im still a little nervous as I havent used one before. Loads of people have told me that I shouldnt home dye when I have highlights......any opinions or experts out there who can advise me???

    Thanks a mil

Chick don't do it. Especially if it's already bleached, it could do totally wrong and you'll end up paying more to get it fixed than you would have in the first place,

Just pay for it and consider it an investment :)

Thought this was about people nearing their end, dyeing isn't so bad I guess :D

Have to agree, dont do those all-over home dyes. If your hair has been bleached, and you have roots, the whole thing can turn out really badly. (Experience as a stupid teen!)

If you want to do a home job, go to a hairdressing supplies shop (Terrisales on Abbey St were always good) and buy the salon equipment. Get a box of Easi-meche strips and ask for advice on the dyes and how to mix them. Then get a reliable friend to do the meche for you as its frickin' impossible to do yourself. I've dont this before, and it's turned out pretty well.

    Dont do it

I decided to do this a while back, got nice 'n' easy. Hair did not turn out the colour of the box, in fact it looked orange. I carried on for a couple of months trying different brands and i never got the blonde shade it showed on the box.

Admitted defeat an went back to the hairdressers

I think I'd like to die at home rather than while getting my hair done...

I dye my own hair all the time and it's fine but tbh, I think with just an all over colour it's no prob to lash it on at home. I hear it's completely different with highlights so as others have said, stick with the hairdressers or else ask the hairdresser for an all over colour, let her do it and then you can continue with that at home yourself.

When I was 16-18 I'd dye my hair a lot and it was always grand.

I wouldn't be too up on highlights but I dyed my hair blonde a few times with no problems. Just don't bleach it, that stuff screws your hair up.

I have highlights (blonde) and I use a nice and easy all-over colour (auburn). My natural colour is red and i'm trying to get my hair back to red so I dye the blonde. The highlights show up through the colour in terms of lighter red. It fades quite quickly but it looks good imo. It doesn't do anything to the hair condition as far as I can see.
