    Hi all,

I am looking to transfer old home movies onto my Mac so I can edit them in iMovie and then burn them onto DVD. Some of these are on VHS, some are on Hi-8.

I was looking into getting a canopus advc-100 to do the transfer - would this work for both?

    Thanks for your help!

Yea the Canopus will do both. For the Hi-8 though, you might be better off with an digital 8 camera, less signal loss.

If you decide to pursue this route for your Hi-8 footage I did some research into what cameras support Hi8 playback via DV.

Use these links to search the camcorders section on ebay.ie for these models.

With these links you will probably catch a camera that is listed in the wrong section (ie a D8 listed as Hi8 or DV) and get a bargain :). These links search ebay.ie. If you want to search other sites, go to the camcorder section and enter the following into the search box (include brackets ).

    (103,110e,120e,125e,238e,255e,320e,340e,345e,355e,356e,460e,461e,480e,620e,8000e,8100e,
    trv103,TRV110E,TRV120E,TRV125E,TRV238E,TRV255E,TRV320E,TRV340E,TRV345E,TRV355E)

    and
    (trv-103,TRV-110E,TRV-120E,TRV-125E,TRV-238E,TRV-255E,TRV-320E,TRV-340E,TRV-345E,TRV-355E,TRV-356E,TRV-460E,TRV-461E,TRV-480E,TRV-620E,TR-8000e,TR-8100E,TRV356E,TRV460E,TRV461E,TRV480E,TRV620E,TR8000e,TR8100E)

Theres two lists simply becuase there is a limit on the length of a search query of course.

As per post below, It seems there is some crossover of the model numbers between some Video8 and Digital8 models. For example there is both a DCR-TRV238E (D8) and a CCD-TRV238E (Hi8). So be sure to check before bidding, in a lot of cases the sellers aren't sure what they are selling themselves, so get the full model number off them.
