Kennels

    Hi,

Just a general query. I have to put my dog in a kennel for the first time this week for 5 days. He's a 1 year old Westie with no temperament issues and quite likes socialising with other dogs. But he's never been away form home before and I'm just wondering how likely it is to negatively affect him?!

Oh, and just to add, I've visited the kennels (which were recommended to me) and really liked them and the owners!
    Thanks.

He'll probably enjoy it JennyAnt! If he's a well socialised and well balanced dog he may take it all in his stride....
He might not eat for the first day but that would be a normal reaction....he won't be long getting used to his surroundings and the new routine. Most boarding kennels have set times for exercise etc, while accomodating any special needs a dog might have, like medication, or only being able to eat in the evening etc.
Don't worry, he'll be fine. Dogs don't think like humans, they're far more adaptable than we give them credit for.

PS- don't foget to get the kennel cough done at your vet.... the kennels won't (and shouldn't) take in a dog that isn't covered against it, and up to date on vaccinations & worming.

Thanks Call Me Socket! He's had a Kennel Cough, and the kennel people requested to see confirmation of this, so that put my mind at rest! I'm probably just worrying unnecessarily! Part of me feels that it'll be worth it to see his face when we get back.....if he even misses us that is!
