Do you know how much would it cost for me to take to a garage and get it done with labour?

This contraption was invented some years ago. According to ancient folklore, it was often used to contact other people, in order to gather information required, or simply to say hello.

In your case, i think it would be very useful.

about €25 for oil and filter in Halfords, about about 30 mins of your time. Or about €100+ in a garage, and then they'll tell you that you need loads of other bits too!

It's currently €139 in Windsor http://www.windsor.ie/special_offer_details.aspx?so=4 rip off!

Let's be serious 139 euro is reasonable.
Will be a bit cheaper if you do it yourself ok, but not everybody has the means to do that and dispose the oil properly.

Is that link you posted not for a minor service, as opposed to an oil change Steve? Bit of a difference there....

I dropped my Almera into Windsor for a minor service after I received a discount voucher in the post. The minor service I got, was an oil change... Note how it doesn't tell you what the service involves!

I ended up paying for blades and filters separately and then they told me I needed new tires, discs and pads too, which I wasn't going to get from them!

I've already had quotes so thanks for your sarcasm.

The garage where I purchased my car 1 year ago quoted me €199, which I knew could not be right, another place in my town quoted €70, that's a hell of a big difference but when something sounds too good to be true, usually, it is. Hence why I came on here seeking helpful advice.

The car's still under warranty, so probably easiest just to bring it to a dealer. Pick up the phone and ring around.

Was it hooked up to a diagnostics machine, and visually inspected too? Both of which, IMO, are important items of any service, and both of which do take time. And time means labour. I think €139 for a minor service isnt bad.

No harm checking with the dealer you purchased it from to see how much they would cost. Get your service history filled out too. I read somewhere that it was worth it for maybe the first four years. After that having a full service history on a 5+ year old car not that much of a benefit when you weigh up the cost of the service.

Ask your friends / family / co workers to see who they use in your area?

no, my car wasn't hooked up to a diagnostics machine, they did a visual inspection which takes a whole 5 mins really. If I'd know it was just going to be an oil change I wouldn't have bothered with it tbh.

€139 for a minor service isnt bad.... depending what the service involves!

but if you go with the 70e garage is your warranty invalidated?

you say you have the car one year, but did you buy new? what year is the car?

also after one year, i would want to change oil, oil filter and air filter not just the oil!

has the car any sort of service history?
