The new bikes were unveiled this morning at a press event.

A video can be seen at http://www.likeplace.ie/blog/index.htm

    They look pretty nice.
    Sturdy too, thank God!

I wonder how long they'll last though?

Bets at least one will be in the liffey by end of day:D

I'll take you up on that bet. You have to give them all your cedit card details before you have a ride on these "free" bikes.

    Or someone elses:D

In fairness I hope this scheme works, it'd be great to see more cyclists around Dublin.

There quite a detailed thread on the subject in Commuting & Transport also.

Agreed, we need more cyclists and less polluting gas guzzlers. Time to extend the no car zone for a one mile radius of the city centre.

How do you see that working?

    Let the people walk.

    Let the people walk.

That's not exactly practical is it? What about the business who will lose out, what if you're buying something big and need a car to bring it home (won't be allowed on bus/train), what if disabled, where will you leave car to walk in, etc etc?

Sadly, many (if not most) people believe extra restrictions on cars can't be done or is not practical etc.

This isn't helped by the Dublin city centre business groups up playing car use and downplaying public transport usage.

The bikes look good - nice colour and obviously designed for both girls and boys (over 14 only of course) I think the design has to be this shape or girls wouldn't use them at all and that would be a shame. Can't wait to see lots of girls and boys cycling around Dublin on these.

Can't see the point you're making here.

Op I'd love to see an exclusion zone around the city, I spent five years cycling to work and taking public transport only sometimes.

I tell you, I wouldn't like to do it now.

SustainableTom was a re-reg of a re-reg of a re-reg of a re-reg (you get the idea)... of a troll. He has now been site-banned.

    Back to the discussion.
