Is there any particular reason you want to replace the stem and headset as well as the bars? They are all seperate components, you can replace any one of them without replacing any of the others (as long as you get matching diameters of course.)

the stem and headset that are currently on the bike are integrated. The handlebars i got are too big to fit the existing stem. i'd like to replace the stem anyways as the riding position is a little high.

looks like a quill stem on any links i can find means you cant replace it with replacing forks, headset and stem (you could prob keep the handlebars)

does it look like this ?

i actually did this on my orange but not a simple job

you may find a quill stem with less of an angle in a bike shop (i'd let you have mine but its the wrong size)

`yeah thats the exact setup i have....
i guess my best bet is to rey and replace the handlebars with a flatter bar...
do you know the dimensions of the standard handlebars on the trek?

    thanks

I don't think you will find a quill stem that will take 31.8mm ("oversize") bars.

You can get a quill to threadless adapter that basically replaces the current one and you clamp a modern stem onto:

Your easiest option is just to get bars that fit though. There comes a point where you are pouring money into a bike that simply isn't worth it.

They are almost certainly 25.4mm, that is the older standard. 31.8mm is the new "oversize" standard.

You would be best off checking this, it should be written on your old bars.
