    Hi there,

So I was at my counselling session last night and came to the realisation that I have very few friends. My counsellor asked me if I could remember a time in the last 5 years when I had fun or laughed while really meaning it and I couldnt of one. I am 25. I have 1 best friend I suppose you could call her, I know a lot of other people but not in the going out for lunch or the cinema kind of way.

I think a large part of my problem is that I dont know what I like to do as I have never tried anything....Ive spent the last hour googling clubs in Dublin too see if I could get any info but have come up with nothing really.

I am not looking for someone else to do the work for me as I know I have to do it myself, if its going to work. But if anyone knows of any website/place where I could get some info I would be eternally grateful. I feel really down about this now and am feeling quite sad today, and dont want to dwell too much in this state of mind as I know what happened the last time I was this way. (long story)

I feel I am a lot more confident now than I was in the past so mayeb this is my time to start doing something about it!

    Thanks for reading

Yeah, it's a pretty lousy situation to be in but you have the right attitude not to dwell on it, and just to sort it out.

There's a few options for you to meet people, joinin a class, takin up a sport, you might find something you love doin too! There are also a few online places to meet people, gumtree, here on boards, there are also groups that meet up regularly, cinema, drinks etc, not sure the name, you could probably google that.

One other thing to remember is that there are so many other people in the same situation, so there'll always be plenty of people out there to meet.

    Best of luck!

Obvious one: After Hours is arranging an upcoming Beers/Night Out at the Kitchen Sync (?) which might be right up your alley. The Nocturnal Forum also arranges occassionaly beers, as do a few other forums. Good solution if you live in Dublin or near it.

I agree with the poster above. You've recognised the problem and you are addressing it. So you defintely have the right attitude.

Friends can easily be made if you do a course/qualification. Why don't you do a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course? They last a month and you can do them in the eveings. Alot of young 20-24 do them and it would be an ideal way of striking up friendships with people while adding something to your cv and it would boost your confidence too.

Just one suggestion out of many. Hope it helps.

Here are some links I have used in the past - hope it helps. Remember though that sometimes the thing you really don't want to try is the thing you will have the most fun with.

Personally I like the physical exertion, it is amazing how good you can feel - though tired; also helps with stress and there are loads of great folk out there trying the same things or professionals in these areas who just love to share their knowledge and experience to help you get the most out of these things.
