Hi, ive seacrhed to see if i can find this already asked here, but no joy (didnt look for too long) apologies if it has, but.....

Ive been away from ireland for the past 11 months (travelling)and will be returning in 2 weeks time, from what i hear ill be doing well to get a job, so my question is can i sign on straight away?

Prior to going away i worked in a steady job for just short of 2 years, before that its patchy at best... work wise. (college etc)

Do i need to have a ceartin amount of tax payments in the past 12 months or anything like that?

Ta for any advice, or to hear from anyone who was in a similar situation.

Actually, the relevent tax year is 2007 for 2009 applicants, so you're probably alright.

Head down to your local office when you get in - you may need proof that Ireland is your home and you were only travelling the past 11 months, such as bank accounts that are still open (bonus if you were still using them) 12 month lease, etc. Chances are if you're born in Ireland and haven't spent any length of time away before though they won't need that much documentation.
