BBC iPlayer on iPhone

To get BBC iPlayer to work on the iPhone (and also your PC) you'll need to sign up to a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service. This will route your internet traffic through a UK server which means that the BBC iPlayer site sees a UK IP address. Works on wifi and 3G (eats up your) 1 gig pretty fast though!

Best of all iPhone/iPod files are not DRM protected and can be downloaded with iPlayer downloader. Just click on your VPN connection on your PC, go to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer and copy and paste the URL of the program you want to download (you'll need to check that it's available in an iPhone version by seeing if it's on the site on your iPhone first) into iplayer downloader.

It may be possible to do all this with a free proxy - I tried and failed but others have succeeded but as far as I know this approach wouldn't work for streamed bbc iplayer content on the iPhone. The VPN service I use is www.ukivpn.com - they have 5 uk servers, 2 US ones and one Canadian. They charge €8 a month or €67 for 12 months . Have found them to be very good and no I don't work for them! There's lots of other VPN services out there but this lot seemed to be particularly good value.

I have also been using ukivpn (but not for iphone) for about 10 months now.

Very good service. No more than 20 minutes downtime. Having the USA proxies is a bonus.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for such a service.
