Is this guy the real deal? He recently handed the durable Pituala his first loss in quite sometime- 8 years in fact. Could he be in exposed if/when he faces a top fighter who can withstand his power?

To answer your Question "Yes, I (personally) think Valero is the real deal as i have been following his career now a few years and i would love to see him fight a - pacman or juan marquez but sadly i just hope!
We know for sure that since the accident a good few years back and then failing a brain scan in the U.S, he will never get cleared (i think) to fight in most big boxing venues there,
So maybe will we never know for sure can this KO king test his skills against the best of 135lbs or 140lbs.
But lets hope so as Valero looks a real boxing warrior who will test any foe who sands in front of him in the ring.

He's already fought in Texas and i'm pretty sure once you're cleared to fight in one state, all the other states follow suit.

According to boxrec he's scheduled to fight in the MGM Grand next. As venues go, you can't get much bigger than that!

NO, not true all states do not follow.
Don't get me wrong as i'd just love to see Valero fighting in the MGM "so lets hope its true."

He's very good. We'll find out a lot about him when he fights a fellow champion.
Id say a katsidis-valero fight would go down well at some point. As for the top tier guys casamayor is getting on and Marquez is off the radar.

It's hard to argue about his stats, but when one looks close, one can see
that he really has yet to face quality.

Pitalua is a grandad who is years past his peak and who was sweating down a hell
of a lot for this bout. He's been a pro since 1992 and is simply a shell of a good fighter.

I am not sold on Edwin yet and think he is terribly crude to be honest.
Let us see him spank Prescott, Khan (maybe), Marquez to name a few. A win over Diaz would be good, or even Katsidis, shot or not!

Prescott just got his head boxed off at domestic level, so I doubt we'll be seeing that Valero v Prescott fight being remade anytime soon. Good thing for Prescott aswell.

Also the question is he the real deal, depends on what is meant by real deal.
As modern boxing goes he's a very solid title holder, has good handspeed and loads of power. He can be a bit crude at times and had fallen in love with his power but is getting back to boxing again.

It has to be remembered though, that even though he's had 25 fights is 27 years old and held two 'World titles', he's only had 51 rounds of pro experience so he's still learning.

He's certainly a force to be reckoned with at Lightweight and there isn't one guy at the weight I'd be very confident would beat him.

I just want to see him in with a real live opponent. He is not the most technical or skilled, so, Prescott wouldn't be a walk for him. I think he has to KO Prescott, who hasn't been ko'd ever.

If Valero and Prescott met, me feels that Edwin can only win via the KO route...

Prescott can KO or decision Valero.

vs. Khan, who I doubt he will fight due to weights, he would DEFINITELY need the KO.

He's never fought anyone ever(bar Khan), it's not like he's shown a good chin and with his awful defense he'd have to have a chin made of granite to even give him a chance with Valero.

I reckon Valero would blow him away in 3/4 rounds at most.

if you want to see him tested(before he takes on the real top guys at the weight) then Katsidis, Moses or DeMarco would be perfect and all would be dangerous fights for him.

Valero is a massive puncher with "ok" skills... but he is wide open!!! when he takes a step up i can see him schooled

I would love to see hem in with JMM... that would be a war...

If he fought Khan at the mo I reckon Valero KO but the more kahn improves, the less likely that is to happen. He tends to leave his chin out a bit on the attack as well which a fighter like kahn could capitalise on but with the amount of times he;s been down and valeros ko% i wouldnt be overly confident.
135 is still a good division but with the exit/decline of marquez, cambell, diaz, casamayor etc now would be a good time to clean out the division.

intressting point... i couldnt see Khan lasting 5 rounds with him ever..
khan got hit with some flush shots from kotelnick.. all it would take is 1 of valeros bombs and its lights out..

I wonder who Khan will fight next
