Is corrupted and can't get onto this laptop. I have been on the repair console with the cd but I'm lost.

What do I need to do?

Bit more info maybe - what operating system are you running? I presume XP if yu ran Recovery Console of the CD.

Try this method for Recovery Console:

At command prompt, type: expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

(where d: is your CD drive and c: is your hard disk) and restart. If you're prompted to overwrite, just type Y.

Also, what exactly is happening when you turn on the PC?

Lol sorry, I should've mentioned XP and it just goes to the hal.dll error. I managed to fix it. I did try that one before and it didn't work. I have managed to get onto the desktop (using recovery cd) and doing a system restore which fixed it.
