Is it possible to connect your iPhone to your laptop in such a way as to get internet connection on the laptop?

    Cheers.
    Ross.

    Google "[your model] + tethering"

You can do it without jailbreaking. Go to http://help.benm.at/help.php on your iPhone and select your operator. Warning 3.0 only.

Thanks. If I can fix my Wifi, this'll be the one. Cheers.
Thanks dmcg90, but I think that one is for O2 users only....

Oh I didn't know that, try this http://www.jellysms.com/blog/enable-internet-tethering-with-your-iphone-in-2-minutes-on-o2-ireland-with-30-gm/ it has o2, 3 amongst others. Again you don't have to jailbreak it, and it's 3.0 only.

    Ross.
If you're not into messing with carrier files and the like, I can recommend an APP called PDANet from Cydia. Very robust and works 100%.

At the moment you can (jellysms.com/blog, etc) but not for much longer. This will be defeated in v3.1 of the OS.

    So, fill your boots.

Heard about 3.1 breaking it, won't be updating then! What's to say though that the carrier files could be changed and tethering working again when
    3.1 comes out?

I would of thought with the 3.1 developer preview out they would of tried to get tethering working again.

Maybe not all developers are that interested in tethering. Besides, it's been through 4 betas, they might break it again in the 5th. Probably best to wait and see.

Will never understand what the big deal is anyway, you can "tether" with any bog-standard BT Nokia in under a minute.
