IAAF World Champs - Prediction Competition

This is a bit of fun and is based on predicting where you think the Irish athletes will come in Berlin. Very simple, simply post a reply and edit the table and input your prediction.

Predict 1st to 24th - so if you think Hession will come 10th, just put in 10 beside his name.

If an athlete has a DNF/DNS/DQ or is outside the top 24 this will be counted as a 24th place.

Scoring: For each athlete prediction, if you predict the exact position you get 0 pts (also see Bonus). For each position your prediction varies you will be given a 1 point. So, you predict Hession in 10th, he comes 12th, you get 2 pts.

Winning: The poster with the lowest score wins.

Bonus: If you exactly predict an athlete's position, you get a -5 pts bonus.

    Athlete Event Prediction (1-24)
    Paul Hession 200
    David Gillick 400
    Thomas Chamney 800
    Deirdre Byrne 1500
    Thomas Chamney 1500
    Alistair Cragg 5000
    Derval O’Rourke 100H
    Olive Loughnane 20k Walk
    Robert Heffernan 20k Walk
    Roisin McGettigan 3000SC
    Michelle Carey 400H
    Jamie Costin 50k Walk
    Colin Griffin 50k Walk
    Eileen O’Keefe Hammer
    Deirdre Ryan HJ

Ok, so I'm looking for Cragg to make it through tonight, a good walk for Jamie and a bad day for Colin. I'll forgo the bonus 5pts for Gillick if he can get a medal and bring the week to a great end.

I really think Jamie has a big performance in him.Maybe Tingle could tell people about Jamie's background and history.
the guy has come back from a career threatening injury and missed the Olympics.
I really hope he performs.Colin Griffin is another guy who dedicates his life to athletics, his problem seems to be the technical aspect of walking and he has spent alot of time this year trying to rectify this with his italian coach,i just think(hope im wrong) he will foul out again.
We are all thinking pretty similar for Gillick so its gona be a close one.
after watching the semi finals and alot of weight lifted from Gillick i think he can go 4th-7th

I think you have the two walkers the wrong way round.when jamie waled the national record this year beating colin he also had to stop for over a minute so if things go well he will be well ahead of colin on form.;)

By my calculations, Thirstywork has it won unless Gillick comes 8th, in which case Kiptanui overtakes down the home straight to win. I think my 3rd place is safe.

Yes, thirstywork is the inaugural Boards Prediction Competition Gold Medalist and can't be caught. The medals are decided with kiptanui in silver and dna leri in bronze. Top 8 positions are still up for grabs.

It'll be interesting to see if thirstywork will be able to follow up this track success on the country with the Euro Cross in December!!!

overall there was some great predictions in there.think loughnane for bronze was some shout by kiptanui.
Ireland performed really well and i think RTE will regret not showing it.
Derval was the performance of the Irish for me(know it sounds silly after loughnanes bronze)but she is back to her best and will be one of the favs for the world indoors should she run it.
Gillick making the final was a landmark for irish athletics and will give him huge confidence in an event dominated by the USA ...

    Well done Thirstywork!!
Good Predictions overall!! I took a chance on Cragg and Colin Griffen, thought they both might deliver!!

Chamney will benefit from the experience and I feel his best chance of success lies at 1500m. Hopefully Eileen can return to her best a la Derval!!
Nobody predicted Derval's stunning performance. Top class with a fantastic ability to deliver on the big day.
David Gillick showed how far he progressed and raced bravely in the final. He took them on early and paid a price but he will reap the rewards in Barcelona!!
For me though, the performance of the championship was our medal winner! Well done Olive! World championship medals are to be treasured! Just as she was our best athlete at the Olympics, she was again in Berlin. Roll on the Europeans!!
