iPhone charging problem

Hoping someone can help with this....

So yesterday my iphone was down to about 20% charge, about half an hour later I looked at it and it had jumped to 60%, then cycled down pretty quickly, to <10% when I plugged it into the wall charger. Last night I looked at it and it said 100% as I was going to bed so I decided to leave it plugged in to maintain the charge. This morning when I woke up the very low battery screen (big battery with small red bar to the left) was showing as if the battery had completely drained and just been plugged in. I plugged it out and back in, left it for 20 mins and no change, plugged it into the PC and no change.
When I plug it out, the logo changes and the plug and socket icon comes up to say it needs to be charged.

I've tried resetting etc but nothing seems to be working, have also tried swapping the USB cable and different USB ports - nothing working.

Anyone seen or heard of this before? phone is <1 month old.

As far as I know, if you are charging from a PC / laptop, once the computer goes to sleep, charging stops and battery drains...

Were you charging from wall socket or pc?

Cheers - was from the wall socket last night, have had it on both the wall socket and the PC this morning, and no change - just sits on the tiny red line when plugged in, goes to plug in icon and eventually powers off when plugged out.

I was hoping it might be a software thing, but the more I think about it the more it seems the battery must be shagged and unable to charge - back to the shop me thinks.

I had probably the same problem. In my case the battery indicator was lying to me. I think my speaker system that i used was F in up my battery. Well it did say it was not combatible:)

It was below 10% i planned on draining it. But then it jumped to 27 the 67. Thats when i realised there was something wrong. But my battery was actually fine.

What i done was. Stopped using speaker system.
Charged it for 3 hours. Dissregard indicator. Then use it till it shuts off. I done this twice before it went back to normal.

Ow and use the plug/socket not the pc.

It sounds like it's the same prob, but unfortunately I can't power the thing up at all because it's down at the minimum, iTunes doesn't even recognise it when I plug it into the PC, other than the fact that the charge indicator comes up when I plug it in and disappears when I disconnect, it's showing no signs of life at all. The reset (Home & Sleep) appears to work, as in screen shuts off, comes back on with charge indicator, but there's no change.

Just been on to apple, went through the various bits and pieces, ended up buying the extended warranty to get a replacement tomorrow.

you could have just paid 29 euro for an immediate swap.

Yeah, they mentioned that (well they said it would be between 35 and 40), the 2 year warranty was 69. At 40 I reckoned another 30 for the same cover for 2 years was just about worth it. I'm not normally one for extended warranties, but between the fact that the first phone lasted 3 weeks, and the 18 month contract I thought I'd take it.
