    just a quick question,

soon im selling my celica hopefully for about 1k, now i have my 98 merc e240, what im looking to get is sumthing in diesel, sayy a cheap passat priced around 2.5 - 3k, would ya say if i went into a dealer and asked for the passat by trading in my merc and adding around 1k or more to the price they would be interested, th merc is in reasonable condition and still nct'd? :)

I cannot see the idea of trading a petrol E240 for a more frugal diesel Passat being that attractive to a dealer to be honest. The dealer could sell the Passat diesel all day but most likely could be stuck with the Merc for a long time.

Those W210 E-Class are rather unloved these days. I have seen many lately that are riddled with rust as well.

....sorry, but not a notion in hell of a garage trading in a 240 against anything........

no because of rust and electrical gremlins :(
i had one and i think they are serious car for the money but you would expect a much better quality especially if i was buying new, u might have more luck trying to px it or swap with someone private, like adverts.ie maybe??

ha strangely i never seen a rusy merc, mines a 1998 and there aint a dot of rust on it, and yea the celica needs a cat so thats why its going cheap lol

Anything else wrong with her beside needing a Cat ? Is it a 3SGE engine (GT version if Irish / UK or SS11 if a Jap).

well i put the celica through the nct after changing an 02 sensor myself andit failed, brought it to an emmisions specialist and they said i needed another new 02 sensor, i replaced it and he tested the emmisions and it failed again, left the car in with him and he said i needed a new cat for it, the only other problem i can see with the car is, the revs seem to drop slightly when idling. so i kinda gave up on the car and drove the merc instead lol, oh and its a 1994 celica st202 2.0 170bhp- i think i might have an old ad on gumtree - http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/74/42412974.html

If you have the NCt print out stating all pass except the emissions you should mention that in the add. Pity you're in Dublin, I work in Galway and go home to Cork every weekend so do enough driving, pity though, could well have offered close to a grand for the Celica. I has a 1995 SS11 up until Dec 2007, on superstrut suspension, savage car, had an LSD too and close ration box with a TRD quickshift. I got €4800 for her.

did you ever check into why the revs are dropping - has it something to do with the cat ?

i left the car in with the garage for 3 days and they still couldnt tell me what was making the revs drop, a few people suggested a vacum leak, other think its an automatic choke problem cause it only happens after the choke is off, i really just gave up on it. i dunno if a faulty cat would cause it, the car drives grand, it just gets a bit irritating when the revs hop a lil while idling. beises that the cars in pretty good nick. the wheels i put on it alone cost 750 euros lol and i bought the thing for 2800euros a few months ago so its a massive loss. i just dont wana go through the hastle of replacing the cat whileit might not be the only problem lol
