How much ammo will be required, I'm finding 9mm hard to get at the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 47 b52

    Thanks Sfakiaman,

The bulls eye match will consist of a minimum of 30 rounds plus one re-entry.

Man-v-man skittles match will consist of nine skittles with a maximum round count restricted to 24 rounds.
It will be shot using a Jacob's Ladder scoring system so each shooter will compete at least twice in this match.

    b52,

Hate to sound naive but a few questions you might be able to answer. What calibre is eligible? What distance(s) will be shot? I've slowly being practising over the months and while my progress is not as good as i would like i'd still enjoy the challenge of entering regardless of results.

BTW thanks for posting the details of the shoot. I've heard of shoots taking place a couple of days after the comp was over. Well done.

This match is catered for all shooters, novice and experienced.

Rules will be clearly explained on the morning.
The maximum distance you will be shooting at will be 25m and minimum distance you will be shooting at will be 10m.

Will definitely be there. I'm over in midlands most every weekend. Not always shooting pistol as ammo can be a problem (getting it) at times. Looking forward to it both in participation and watching other more experienced shooters.

Dont forget that the Birr Game Fair is on next Sunday, so allow for traffic on your way.

And what time is sign on/kick off?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 47 b52

Sorry guys for the late reply,

Rew, this competion is open to everybody, naturally each shooter must have a firearm cert for the firearm he wishes to use, be a member of a shooting club and have identifacation of the same.

Rovi, thanks for your question, sign in before 10am hope to start match around 10ish both pistol ranges will be operational at the same time so things should move along quite smoothly. Range orders will be posted on the day and all must comply with same.

    I can't make it, gutted.

If photos are permitted can someone take a snap of the skittle layout or post info on skittle size, distance, start position, course of fire etc. please; sounds like it could be fun and we may well adopt similar in other clubs if it proves popular.

Oh how I really miss the buzz and craic of the IPSA shoots, sniff. I was just looking at old photos/vids and nearly cried. It's one bowling ball sized bitter pill to swallow, but adapt and overcome I guess. :(

Well done to all the winners and to all the lads that took part. Continuation of these events will ensure our sport thrives. Now i'm off to get more ammo and try them dam skittles again.:P

Yes, I too had a great time at the competition, made all the more entertaining by the banter, craic and co-operation of all the competitors, thank you one and all.

A huge thank you to all the MNSCI ladies for keeping us all fed and watered during the shoot and a very special thanks to my little helper for keeping me fed all day, thanks AG. Not forgetting the guys that cleaned & scrubbed the pistol range from top to bottom the day before (a father & son team) well done and pretty good shootin’ too.

Weather wasn’t great but come on, give us a chance, next time we’ll have that organised in too.

Fantastic shooting by some of the guys, wow, what can I say. In my case, I think I’ll try and disguise my shogun as a pistol next time, maybe I might even hit the target with some birdshot………

Had a great day out despite the wind blowing the targets away at one stage. The final of the skittles was something else!

Well done to all who organised and took part.

2 wooden frames with 9 skittles on each. 5 across the top and 4 on the bottom (as far as I remember). 24 rounds in 4 mags. It was fired from 15m, the shooters would load but not chamber, on the beep they would chamber the first round and shoot. First person to knock all their skittles won.

    Thanks!

    Sounds like a hoot!

Also, what size were the skittles and shape, how far were they spaced apart? Were they made of wood, we use wodden blocks but they're often a pig to drop, often requiring controlled pairs to knock over!

Also, I assume an Austrian unmentionable won? :D

There real 10 pin bowling pins as far as I could tell, wood surrounded by thick hard plastic. Exactly like this:

No one in the final had a Glock as far as I remember. The shape of the pin means its fairly unstable so once hit it will fall. They held up well to the abuse as well!

I think it was an STI Executive - he was on form - did well to recover from a jam in the final and still take it.

I have a piece of fine Austrian engineering but was not on form at all on the day - got knocked out in the second round (to the other finalist I might add)

A great day of shooting with an incredible final on the skittles. Full marks & huge thanks to Midlands for such a professional & hospitable event. The Range Officers in particular were selfless & untiring, detail after detail.

Anyone know when / where we can get the results of the target competition?

Unfortunately I already know the result of the Skittles, having been knocked out in the third round, with 4 skittles to go, by the soon to be overall winner!

I don't remember the winning time in the final but the fastest time of the day was in the region of 13.44 seconds.....

Incredible if you factor in the mag change after the first 6 rounds and he had to rack it as well.

It was a great feat of skill, accuracy and speed. I thought it looked easy but once you're standing there its a different story. Trying to keep on target, hit the skittle, change mags and all while trying to beat the man next to you. Great fun though. Might wander over to midlands again they are being left there for the time being so would like another crack at them.

Was it a rule to finish out the magazine or were you able to leave the last one in the chamber to cycle the slide for maximum efficiency?

Rule was you had to empty the gun before the mag change. There were revolvers as well BTW im just generally referring to the pistols though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭Bananaman

If nothing goes wrong you should have an average split time of something like 1.5/1.7 seconds between shots when doing a mag change on an open chamber. There's a lot of ways that could take two or three seconds though.

It's a matter of practice. Same as every other skill.

The important thing is to keep your muzzle on target at all times during the mag change
    - obviously for safety -
but it also gets rid of time spent getting back on target once you have the mag in.

I'm assuming that everyone, revolvers, service type semis and the like were lumped into the same competition (perfectly understandable for a relatively small number of competitors)?

Yes, the targets results were split in to rim and center fire though. If you ask me it came down to the shooter more then the gun though, as in I don't think anyone was particularly advantaged or disadvantaged by their gun.
