Could someone give me some advice about the above guitar? Weight, shape etc. I am a wheelchair user, and there are certain types/sizes of guitars that I just cannot manage because of the weight, shape etc.

I have previously tried a Hohner Les Paul Copy(great shape, waaaaaaaaaay too ****ing heavy), and a Fender Stratocaster, which I just didn't like!!

    Any tips/help greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Just to add, the Epiphone Les Paul's neck was far too "round", ie: I couldn't get my hand around it properly to form some of the chords.....?

It's either the "Tiger" or the Cherry Red(?) version that I saw at the weekend??? It definetly wasn't black.......I'm sure of that! Didn't get to hold it for too long, as the guy in the band I saw wanted it back!!!!

This is probably a stupid question, but does the type of wood that a guitar is made from contribute to the weight of it??? If so, which wood is the lighter weight?

Mahogany is incredibly heavy, maple is quite heavy also. Alder is quite light but it's rare to find a Les Paul made of anything but mahogany.

Thanks. That guitar that I mentioned is made from Alder wood, afaik.

Saw that! Can you suggest any lightweight guitars that are worth trying out?

What about an SG style guitar? Lighter than a Les Paul but has a fantastic tone.

Thought about one of those? They're the guitars that Angus Young plays, aren't they?

    Yup, they're the ones.

TBH, if you want one that is the lightest you can get, look at Steinbergers or Parkers. They may not look like traditional guitars but they are extremely light and sound incredible.

actually you are quite wrong ,
you can get mahogany les pauls that are light weight , it depends on the wood stock used to build it .
its not "incredibly heavy " - mahogany varys like any wood, you need to try out a few to find a light one.

and i have played the ec range and they are very light , compared to les pauls usual weight - they were made with thin necks and light bodies specifically .

    OP

I suggest trying an EC if thats what you want - writing about it here is no use to you - you may be surprised how comfortable they are.

Fair point, mahogany does vary quite a lot in weight but in general, it's a heavy wood. Of course, there is Gibson's new thing of drilling massive holes in their bodies.

I think a trip to Waltons is in order!? X-Music don't seem to stock ESP Guitars for some strange reason....?

I think Instrumental on the quays are the only shop in Dublin that have the ESP dealership.

Okeydoke. I was looking for a website for those guys, but they seem to be a small shop....?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It is quite a small shop alright. Some lovely stock but you can't turn around without hitting a guitar.

i notice you have deleted the posts from the poster who was selling a guitar

and I assume you banned them as well - knowing the overzealous handing out of bans on here like snuff at a wake ?

I also notice the mod DORD has a for sale signature on every post in this forum

one rule for you and one for the rest, yes ?

Could someone please explain the difference(s) - if any - between an ESP Eclipse Custom, and an ESP Ecplise II STBC......??

I'm torn between those two guitars....they're gorgeous!!!!

I dunno if you're into Ibanez guitars, but the Ibanez s-series are the absolute business. Really small body, lovely thin necks, and amazing pickups. Best guitars around imo, and should suit you if size and weight are an issue.

Anyone got any thoughts on the Les Paul BFG model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,663 ✭✭✭✭Mental Mickey

Went up to X-Music today to have a look around. I am totally friggin bamboozled now!!!! While I was looking at various guitars, I decided to have a go at picking up a bass just for the heck of it, and, I find a bass easier to manage than any electric guitar!!!???

Maybe four strings is the way to go......?

    I want to compare prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,663 ✭✭✭✭Mental Mickey

Found the exact same guitar on Everest Music's Website for under a grand!!! If I bring this price to X-Music, willl they match it for me?
