Plugging a tyre

My mate just came back from a garage, had a puncture, got it plugged but it was the sidewall, the garage plugged it no prob.. I always thought you never plugged/patched a sidewall????

You don't. Not only that, you're not supposed to plug the tread of the tyre itself if it's too close to the sidewall (don't know the exact distance, but say 1cm or so)

Yeah I thought as much, I've the plugs myself for my own cars but never do a sidewall.. was wondering if I'd wasted tyres down the years or had my pappy thought me right!!

yeah never plug side walls as the the plug can never be the have same pressure resistannce as the original , there is a good chance ya could get a blow out when least expecting. plus you wont get the car through the NCT...... side wall damage = new tyre im afraid
