Looking to go here in October

Specifically looking at Honolulu with the wife

Where would you guys recomend to stay and what attractions are there
So far theres the zoo, pearl harbour, some crater on a hill and a few others.

Not looking to spend a huge amount but still want to have fun. A friend was there and said theres some spots on the north of the island that are amazing so might rent a car for a few days and check it out.

I stayed in Waikiki and also on the Big Island. I definitely wouldn't go back to Waikiki - it's not that it's bad or anything, but why go to a city when you have a beautiful relaxed tropical islands all around you. The north of Oahu is very nice, there's a sort of surfer village called Haleiwa that is well worth a visit.

But I'd recommend finding a nice hotel near a nice beach and just kicking back. Go snorkel with the turtles too, that's pretty fantastic. If you can surf, Hawaii is probably the place to do it too. Usually I do a lot of travelling around etc and we did do a fair bit of site seeing, went to the live volcano and an old historic site and visited a few towns - but the best part was definitely the seaside!

I wouldn't spend too long around Honolulu. The Big Island is beautiful, take a trip to the Volcano, take a tour to the top Mauna Kea, it is spectacular at sunset. Maui is a great island, nice beaches, good surfing, good nightlife, some great scenery, the road to Hana is worth doing where you drive through the rain forest. If you like some peace and quiet and like to do treks then Kauai island is worth a vist, it's a quiet island, not too many tourists and great place to get away from everything.

I did all those! Enjoyed them all too. There is also the dole plantation. The largest outdoor maze in the world (supposedly). I had a good time. Mostly because I took the public bus out to it which does a round trip of the island and stops at the plantation. Worth doing in my opinion.

    Have a great time.

Ye honolulu is like any large American city really. The beach there is busy but nice. I would defo go to the north shore and see everything from there. Waimea bay (mentioned in beach boys song) is lovely. If you like surfing there is a rental place just up a bit further towards the pipeLine!..

Spent a bit living on the East coast of Oahu and id recommend:
Pearl Harbour-creepiest place ive been but reay something to experience
Hanauma Bay-old volcanic crater where u can snorkle with tropical fish
Dole Plantation-who guessed pineapples dont grow on trees!
Valley of the Temples-giant Buddhist temple
    Kailua Beach-beautiful, quiet, big beach.
    Ala Moana shopping centre-Massive!
    North shore beaches-Just fab

Saying all that i wished id had time to visit the Big Island and Maui but i'll just have to go back!!

Also Honolulu is very built up and Americanised but it makes Hawaii convenient.Plus Waikiki contains 95% of the hotels for the island!
The Hawaiians are the nicest people ive met as well and make u feel very welcome
    Enjoy your trip:)

Thanks a mil for the replies

My budget isnt huge so I didnt want to spend it on travel between islands. I'm also not there for that long around 11 days and have to travel to seattle after so more of a relaxed holiday but all those things so far sound great.

I think i might stay in a hotel in waikiki for the first few nights and just see the sights and the usual stuff then for the last few days hire out a car and travel the island a bit and see the nicer more scenic places.
