    looking for a recommendation, preferably want to be within walking distance of the city centre...any hotels i have looked at so far are very expensive :eek: has anyone found any nice cheap and cheerful gems here??

    Try the hotel Ambassade. On the canal. a Few celebrities stayed there. Hotel Winston

    I stayed at the Ramada (City centre) about 2 years ago with my bf and it was fairly reasonable.., he had been to Amsterdam twice before and said it was by far the nicest he'd seen. A lot of the accommodation in Amsterdam is very shabby, for example a 4 star over there would be a 1 or a 2 by our standards..

    So choose carefully :o
