Getting rid of long hair

I'm a fella and I've had long long hair the past 12 years.
Thinking of getting it cut/shaved (mainly for the girlfriend, I'm not going to lie :P ).

My hair is quite thick but very fine and it's incredibly straight. So I guess the only concern is that I'll look like an Aids victim (for want of a better description) for a few weeks. I'd imagine my head will be very pale, apart from the center line where my parting is..

Would it be best to just shave it and let the skin darken on it's own or would it be best to go an intermediate route?

Don't think there'll be a huge difference in the colour of your scalp.

I think you'd want to figure out if you can handle the shock of getting it all cut off or to get it done slowly. Do you have an idea of what style you want it or do you just wanna shave it off?

Nah, I'm pretty lazy when it comes to my hair.
The less effort the better (regards styling, not that I don't wash myself :P) so I'll probably just end up shaving it.

Speaking of washing.. it's almost time for my annual shower, woo.
