I know that I have alot to be thankful for and I don't want to make this a "poor me" post. I just feel like my career/financial life is going down the pan and I don't know what to do.

I bought a house a couple of years ago and could comfortably afford the mortgage repayments. I was made redundant last Summer and was lucky enough to get a new job in an area I had some interest in , the company required me to get a degree in this subject and agreed to fund the studies which is fantastic. The job at the time had a lower salary, but with bonus/annual raise that were in the contract I figured it would be temporary and I could live on it for the time being.

Because of the recession I didn't get the bonus or the raise expected and I'm literally living paycheck to paycheck. I have just enough to live on most months. Pay bills, mortgage, car insurance etc.(I need the car for my work do selling isn't an option). I needed to go to the doctor 2 months ago and get meds and I went over my over draft limit. Hi,

You've a lot going on - certainly - but please try to focus on one thing at a time, deal with it, and then move onto the next problem. If you think about all of the problems at once, then you are bound to feel overwhelmed and struggle to cope.

I feel for you OP, I know people in a similar situation so please don't feel ashamed, it's not only you!

One practical thing to do would be to look into your bills to see whether you can negotiate them down, e.g. switch from ESB to Bord Gais, get a cheaper insurance quote, renegotiate your mobile bill etc. There are many offers in the market now and providers are much more flexible, some are trying to undercut each other if you switch so try to take advantage of this. You will feel better with some free euro in your budget.

Also if you can't negotiate any raise, you can always keep looking for another job, it's much better to look when employed than unemployed obviously and there are still jobs around. Myself I secured a better paid job recently so please don't give up on this.

    Best of luck.
