Do you keep or trade in games?

Do you play a game once / beat...then trade in for the next hot title?

Does the addition of offline or online multiplayer stop you from selling it? --- I've played COD4 nearly every day since release. Now that's value for money!

Do you refuse to trade in because you perceive it as 'getting ripped off'...even though you won't even play the game again?!

Have you ever traded a game in...only to miss it so much...you went and bought it again?!

I rarely trade games into shops because its a complete rip off, if i was trading a game I would use adverts.ie

I've never missed a game so much as to buy it again, I'm usually sure that I'd never want to play a game again if I was trading/selling.

It depends on the game when deciding whether to keep it or not
e.g. I finished Metal Gear Solid 4 but I kept it for replay value and MGO(which is awesome :D)

So really it depends on what game it is, and if you think you'll ever play it again.

Yea i got brothers in arms finished it then less than a week after paying 50 euro for it i took it back to smyths and they offered me 15 euro for it !!! So i kept it.

I have held onto great games even if i wont play them again i like to have them just in case.

COD4, orange box, ghost recon 2 etc

Like most people, if the game is very good or the online is brill (Killzone 2, COD4), I keep it but some games like Haze, Fry Cry 2 etc, just annoy me so much that I have to trade them just to get them out of the house :D

Yes... I was probably the only person to trade in COD4...
but I didn't have internet at the time so it was a reasonable decision for me at the time. But bought it again, which happened to be the exact one I traded in so happy days.

I will start trading in games again because my collection is ridiculously large and my wallet is ridiculously empty...

Especially when games when Uncharted 2, COD6, Batman and ProEvo/Fifa are coming out. Theres a good bit of moolah to be spent there,

same as others really. if the game has good re-play i will keep it. or for such classics as GTA4, RE5, MGS4, and COD i keep.

for others i was trading them in for a while but realised that the value is carp on them. so I try and swap now if I can

i used to trade the game in when i finished it, i once traded farcry2 in because i hated it but then went and bought a copy of it after realizing i was playing it wrong and it turned out out to be a good game. i find once you have completed the game the online gaming for it can be so good (PS3) have stopped trading in because shops don,t give you a great deal.

I traded in COD4. I was playing it in work at lunch too, so I was sort of Codded out. Great game mind.

I'll trade everything, really. You tend to get stuck with the dregs of games though, that you use the odd credit to get. Like I picked up the new prince of persia for 12 euro or something and I'm buggered if I'll be able to get rid of the damn thing.

I keep them. It's called a game collection for a reason!

Keep em. I used to trade them in when gametop were doing that "Trade in any 2 games for a new game" deal. Not anymore though.

I will never give the thieving bastards the opportunity to mark up a game I give them by 200 - 400%. I have games sitting on my shelf I haven't played in over a year. If i wanted rid I'd rather give them to charity than the likes of Gamestop.

I keep them - like others here, I see no value in trading the game back to the various game stores for less than 1/5 of their value a week ago... These days though I try to avoid impulse buys, reading more reviews, playing demos if available, checking other peoples' opinions here, etc to avoid buying crap games in the first place...

The only game that's lasted for me is Halo3 and half life 2
I bought Cod 4 and GTA 4 twice after trade in. Enjoyed both twice as much the 2nd time around. I'd have to buy halo 3 again cus it just broke, but odst is gna include everything I need so it would be a waste.

I like keeping games simply because they might be worth something in a few years. Like Tombi for the PS1. That game is worth about €50 now :pac:

I'm a hoarder by nature anyway but there's no way that if I actually go to the trouble of getting a game that I'm going to sell it back to them so they can make even more money. I generally buy my games from pre-owned anyway so I'm glad that people do actually sell theirs. I read a lot of reviews if I'm interested but one thing I like to use is that if a game is out a couple of months and there are a LOT of that game in the pre-owned section then I wont go near it unless it's too cheap not to buy it.

Keep em always, starting to really build on the collection. Ive seen a good few used collectors edition games in gamestop and smyths recently. Who trades that stuff in, surely u only buy the collectors edition for games u really like and know are gonna be good.

I'm a hoarder of older games and a trader of new titles, no sneso in hanging onto a game that has a decent trade in value, especially if you complete it.
But then, if it's good enough, I will buy another copy a year or so later, when it's available for next to nothing and add it to my collection.
Hence I have the Halo series, GOW games, and so on.
I recently reinvested in Far Cry 2, I had it the first time and didn't get into it, but this time around it's much better for some reason.
Also, this infernal recession means that the spare cash for new games just doesn't exist, so preowned gems is the only way to go at the moment.

Thanks for all the replies so far...

    I'm actually surprised!

Going on the amount of trade ins I see in Xtravision, Gamestop etc. - I thought this was the era of: beat game once, trade, get money off next new title, repeat cycle.........

If theres a game I've been hearing so much about I'll trade it in. I'd never trade it in for money.

I have to say though, thanks to you traders in, there are lots of great preowned stuff out there.
I see that xtravision have a good line of buy one get another half price going on.
I'm tempted to get Gears of War and Gears of War 2 in a twin pack for only 15 euro, may even be cheeky and trade in my solo copy of Gears of War for it!
I'm sorry if I offended any PS3 owners out there mentioning a 360 game on these pages, I have both consoles and the PS3 just has nothing to compete with GOW, at least not yet!

Untrue, there are plenty of bland, macho over the shoulder shooters on PS3 as well.
