I am entering my final year of college in a very demanding, 30 hour a week course. My results this year basically determine whether I can get into the best grad schools. In third year I was very involved with a sports club in college and was pretty much the main pillar of it administratively and on the field. This year, I feel that I can't afford the time. I have piles of work, my own writing to do and a great girlfriend.

I'm looking for advise on how to step away from the team gracefully and without ruffling feathers.

    Thanks guys.

    Hi OP.

Your future is at stake here. Being respectful to your peers in the sports club is important. But you have to leave. Now it's time for someone else to step forward and share the burden between them.

You need to tell them that you love the club, you have had a wonderful time there, but now you have to give your 100% attention to your career and you wish them all the best in the future. You will look in from time to time but you have to make a clean break.

Time for head-down tight focussed work now and in a few years you will be in that place you always wanted to be in. And who knows there will probably be another club you have get involved in :-)

    All the best !
