Does anyone have any word on 09/10 fees?

I assume they will be €1575?
    €1500 reg fee + €75 gym + €0 USI?

Treasurer's Office website is little help, only contains last year's information.

Got the UG fees letter today.

    €1585

They are up to the same old tricks and making the USI levy compulsory.

For 8 quid, what's the problem with USI? TCDSU take money from your registration, a lot more in fact. Do people not like Unions anymore? I thought they were more popular during a recession.

For the last year two years I was indifferent and paid it anyway. But last years fees protest just pissed me off no end and as my own protest they are not getting my €8.

I know TCDSU get a much bigger chunk of my reg fee, but I can do jack**** about it.

One could also argue that you could contact the USI as a member and tell them of your support for a fees system (something I'd be in favour of too - well-managed etc.) and unhappiness of them not representing your views.

I'd agree with this line of thought a lot more.

In fact once I'm officially accepted to NUIG on Monday, I'm going to email Hugh and tell him as much.

Being frank about it, I don't think paying €8 is worth the pleasure of emailing him.

When I emailed him earlier this year I got a smart email back basically saying I was wrong, and that Public Sector Paycuts is what we should be after, not college fees. Of no relevance to the point I was making.

If you like you can give me 8 euro, it will be about as effective.

Anwyay, afaik the usi only get something like 5 euro of the 8 euro.

Do I still have to pay for the gym if I'm on Erasmus?

I'll also not be paying the USI levy.

Do you have to pay reg fee here and in France?

Technically no, as they check when they activate your card for the gym.

    I am going to be so broke this year.. Cursed full fees (hoping it'll be this year only, but if they bring in fees, I am screwed. That, or schols. Hopefully schols!). ;_;

Your going to be a member of USI whether you pay the €8 or not, it just comes out of the money that goes to TCDSU/NUIGSU if you dont pay the €8 yourself.

There are no full fees this year. If you were paying full fees, you would be paying these prices.

All you are paying is a registration fee which was always in place (albeit increased from €978 to €1585).

No no. I am paying full fees. 7,417 to be precise provided I get TP.

Having done first year of a different course before, I am liable for full EU fees in my first year. :(

Think the same goes for fonpokno.

Ah my bad. I thought you had heard on the news a while back that fees were being brought back in, and that you thought that the €1585 was them :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

    Yay, no registration fee :)

So, can I just not pay the €8 USI levy or is it different this year (or was it always like this and the idea that you could get around the USI levy is a myth)

Haha, if full fees were €1585 I would start believing in a god.. :pac:

I wish they were, then I could afford luxuries like food this year. :P

My fee bill in the post today for going into 3rd year says €85 - free fees plus a HEA grant for the registration fee.
Cue "down with social welfare";"bring back fees", etc, etc..

Nice, I thought you had to pay the registration and the incompetency of the system meant you only got the grant money much later.

Oh, and down with social welfare and all that.

It certainly worked that way last year, though it appears to have been improved this year.

Nah, I'm paying full fees this year cos I'm a filthy dropout. €8,375 if I get my first choice....

I am indeed. And you make a good point, but if you got more than 500 points (firstly congrats btw) I would start learning now, not to take any statment with the word relative in it seriously. Over the course of the year I've clearly become geekier than i realised, sorry about that.

Just turn up and not have it paid, they wave you on through.

Hmm, I thought I was done being bitter, but 1.7% more in Schols and I would have avoided the 1585euro bill I received this morning. Fuckers; that is all.

Hehe, got those points a couple of years ago but I'm sure my 18 year old self appreciates the congratulations! :pac:
    Oh dear, I'm going to be even geekier than I am now? This disturbs me. ;_;

It's going to be strange being in a relatively small course (I was in a class of roughly 260 prior to this) though I'm assuming there's a lot of overlap with Maths and Physics by all accounts.

My main worry is that I've completely messed up my CAO application (I had to send proof of attendance for a different course) although the CAO woman promised me everything was there. If she was wrong.. *shakes fist* :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 121 ✭✭gamma23

Haha sorry about that. But im afraid you probably will or at least just start accepting geeky comments as normal.

It is small but in 1st apart from labs and Special Rel we are put in with maths or the science lads and pcam's for physics, so the class isnt that small.

I'm sure it will work out with the CAO even when they make mistakes they are quite good at sorting it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

No worries, I'm just scared that there's a level of geekishness that I haven't reached yet.. :P

Ah cool, that definitely makes sense. Be nice to get a good mix between small groups so I actually get to know people in the class, and a big group aswell.

It should be fine, I'd just have a minor freak out if I didn't get an offer on Monday. :D And getting the CAO on the phone the rest of the year is hard enough, let alone then..
