If you book a flight with Ryan Air, or any airline for that matter and cancel it. Can you get the tax back. So flight was 99 cent and tax was 40 ish each way. Can i get my 80 Euro tax back? Or is that a mad question,

I'm pretty sure you can but afaik it cost so much in admin fess with Ryanair that it may not be worth it.

Edit : btw, if you google "ryanair" and "refund" it's the very first result.

You can. Each airline has it's own procedure, Ryanair hit you with an admin charge for issuing a refund for the taxes paid, you contact the refund section.

    For Refunds - Cancelled Flights
    Ryanair Refunds Dept
    PO Box 11451
    Swords
    Co Dublin
    Ireland
    Fax +353 1 8121676

Thanks for your reply and i am not arguing with you but Why is that? the tax goes to the government so why cant i get it back if i don't avail of the service? Some one else will sit in my seat and pay the tax again.

Could one argue that the tax was not paid to the airline so the refund is not due from the the airline but the tax man? SO can i claim from revenue?

No. The taxes/levies are paid by Ryanair in arrears, so if you haven't travelled they won't have paid, therefore you're not going to get a penny back from them.

I don't believe the admin charge is as high as was suggested by another poster here. Perhaps calling their customer service will clarify how much they charge. Given that they charge you to give them money, it's little surprise that they charge to give it back.

    From the Ryanair site

All Ryanair fares are fully changeable flight/dates/times/routes and names (up to 4 hours prior to original flight departure) however fares, fees or charges are non-refundable. Government taxes are the only portion of taxes, fees and charges which are refundable. Government tax refunds are subject to an administration fee of £16, which is half BA's admin fee of £30 and significantly lower than BMI's £25 or Easyjet's £17.50. If the refund amount due to the customer is less than the applicable refund administration charge then no refund will be made. Government tax refund requests must be made within one month from the booked travel date.

There are no figures quoted on euro and it is not clear if the admin charge is per passenger or per booking!

Good luck with it and even if the refund is €5 after Ryanair is finished with you, still better to go after it!

Other posters have confirmed that the admin charge is per booking but only applies to a one-way flight so double the fees for an entire trip.
