got myself a smashing '04 avensis this weekend, but it's missing the owners manual, and there are a little few things i'd like to figure out (like the power button on the rear view mirror, doesn't seem to do anything!)

anyone know where i can pick up an owners manual for it, or where i can get a pdf of it??

You can get one from your local Toyota Dealer, costs a couple of quid. That power button on the mirror it the auto dimming mirror, not really noticeable in the daylight but at night it keeps glare low from cars lights behind you.

aha, cool. bought it from carroll and kinsella, so i imagine they should have given it to me, i'll ask them tomorrow.

if not, i'll be back with more questions about all the doohickeys!

That's the auto dimming rear view mirror sensor iirc.

Regarding the owner's manual, a dealer will still most likely have one knocking around the store room somewhere. Failing that there is one here on eBay if your really stuck:

yet another question, this one for the more electronically minded.

we have an ipod radio broadcaster, that connects through the cigarette lighter.
it hadn't been sounding quite right to me, mono rather than stereo, and i noticed that if i applied a little pressure to the plug into the lighter socket, the sound improved dramatically.

this is the geezer in question

i'd assumed that the unit maybe just wasn't broadcasting enough of a signal for the car, but this morning tested it on the cigarette lighter in the back of the car, behind the hand brake, and the sound was perfect, so it's not a signal thing.

so, i'm guessing the contacts on the front lighter aren't so great maybe. are they easy to improve???

Mmm, I've something similar in my S40. My Garmin sat nav charger will not work from the front cigarette lighter socket but it will work perfectly from the rear facing 12v socket located between the front seats. I'm assuming it's a voltage compatibility issue with the charger.

maybe, but our satnav worked fine off the front lighter though.
