Is there anyway to listen to the radio channels they offer while actually watching the tv?

    Cheers.

Afaik you can connect upc up to a dab radio and listen to the radio stations, and watch telly in the usual way. I still can't think of a reason why you would to do both at the same time!

You can run into sync problems when trying to do this. Normally there is a longer delay with the TV pictures than radio. This can be really frustrating.

The BBC run a really good service via their Red Button on Sky Digital. Radio 5 is normally perfectly in sync with the TV pictures.

If you hook up an analgoue radio to the UPC cable you will get BBC Rads 1 through 5 and Classic FM as well as the local Irish stations. However because it's analogue the radio will be a few seconds ahead of the digital picture during a live sporting event.

You won't hear much on a DAB radio, unless it also has an FM tuner. UPC don't do DAB.

What they do however, is two other types of radio:

    FM Radio
This is only available in some areas, mainly NTL ones and dates back to the Cablelink days. Basically you can hook an FM tuner that has a co-axial arial input - mainly older hi-fi tuners - to the "FM" socket on your wall tap. You can then listen to Irish and UK national stations (both BBC and INR) and some Dublin local stations with near-perfect reception (at least in theory).

    Digital Radio (DVB-C).
This is radio you listen to through your TV and is available to most digital cable customers. There is a selection of radio stations (including the RTE & BBC digital radio stations) carried on the digital cable network. They are located at EPG no 901+ on the NTL system (or by selecting "Digital Radio" on the EPG main menu, if you've a UPC-branded box). You listen to the station through your TV speakers (but you can't watch TV while you're doing so). Note that this isn't DAB, its DVB-C (but, er, with no video).
