Not sure about this at all, but I thought i'd get your thoughts on it.

Just want to note, that in no way here, am I making any accusations about the said company, just putting the question out there.

My dad filled up his car and our uncles car (03, C180 and 96' 523i) at Maxol Sallynoggin on the same day about a week ago.

Since then, both cars have had issues. The C-Class failed to start on one or two occasions, and seems to be running a bit rough. The 5 series lost power in a big way, and cut out completely once my uncle brought it to the west of Ireland on a holiday.

Both of these cars have under 60K Miles on the clock, and have been maintained and driven properly, so it seems strange that both would have developed similar issues like this.

Is contaminated petrol a possibility here, and if you've filled up there in the past while, have you had any issues?

Why do you not go back to the garage and ask the owner/manager if they have had an issue with their fuel?

People assume that they will lie to you, the fact is they won't, if they by some insane longshot got 'bad' fuel (which is so unlikely its akin to winning the lotto odds wise - especially in that particular modern type of garage), then Maxol headoffice would put their hands up and admit they had an issue and address it with affected customers. Some of the very old country sites tanks can give problems but Sallynoggin would be top class equipment wise.

You need to take into account that that site probably sells a minimum off 15k-20k unleaded a day and in effect they would have close to 1,000 customers coming back to them with car problems and everyone in the area will know about it, its not something they are going to be able to sweep under the carpet, nor will they try to.

Go back to them and ask them, or ring the retail manager of Maxol and ask him directly, they are an excellent company, the best in the business in Ireland and will not lie to you.

    Good luck.
