Just after watching the Seth Rogen comedy 'Observe and Report'.. and to be honest, I heard nothing but bad things and wasn't expecting much but I actually enjoyed it.

But let me just elaborate - I didn't find it particularly funny.. it wasn't bad.. but I think it was very stylish in how parts of it were shot, and also I thought some of the music was pitch-perfect.

I'll probably be shot down in flames for this but.. some of Jody Hill's direction in this reminded me a lot of *gulp* Wes Anderson.

I normally don't watch a film and really analyse the different elements - direction, writing, performances but found myself really actually enjoying Jody Hill's direction in this.

Anyone else able to appreciate a film even if they didn't enjoy it?

While I did enjoy the film itself, the direction, music and editing of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance outshone the movie itself for me. I had very high expectations for the storyline after Oldboy which weren't met, but i couldn't fault the actual film making. A lot of the cuts in particular were incredibly well done.

i thought the village as a story/film was only watchable but the use of colour and music made it a very enjoyable film.

    My .02 cent anyway

    Sin City.

If it had been shot like any other movie it would have been utter shíte.

Is that because you fancy Keanu Reeves?

Titanic just looked very impressive, the dialogue and a few other things left a lot to be desired though.

They Live - purely because it has one of the best fight scenes and one of the best one liners ever - "I have come here to kick ass and chew bubblegum - and I'm all outa bubblegum!"

Nope, at least i hope not

anyway, its just all keanu reeves movies dont seem to be particularly good but make up for it by having keanu reeves or some other thing going for it.

Considering They Live was released in 1988 I'd say they nicked it!

Excellent examples of films that don't completely suck despite him being in them. I did enjoy all of those films but I cannot stand Keanu Reeves as an actor.

I hated The Dark Knight mainly because Christian Bale is crap at being Batman. I did enjoy Heath Ledger's performance though but I was put off by the ridiculous hype over it. It wasn't that good but it was enjoyable.

    Kill Bill

I thought the two films were poor overall but there were some great visuals

probably has more to do with the fact that Bale has almost zero presence in most films hes been in.

'Gladiator' - the film is stodgy garbage but I liked the visual spectacle of it

Watched this over the weekend actually. Pretty boring stuff but some of the visuals are amazing. Fifth Element seems to have ripped off half the costumes and set designs.

A lot of the 70/80's era Italian video nasties are boring but some scenes blow you away with the cinematography. Zombie Flesh Eaters has a stunning zombie v's shark underwater fight.

Miami Vice, great visuals and sound track but it was style over substance.

I'd definitely agree with you there, some of the old Italian horrors were incredible. Dario Argento in his prime is a perfect example, I've still to find a horror film that comes close to Suspiria in terms of visual impact, very surreal a times.
