    HI all

Can anyone voice their opinions on Kilkea Castle as a wedding venue? What is the food like? Are the guest bedrooms nice?

Ive done a few wedding videos in it and in the process that took me into the rooms and allowed me to experience the food.

So overall my opinion would be that the food is lovely, bedrooms are great and its got a genuine "castle" feel to it. They have a long tradition of hosting weddings and from my perspective its a great venue and particularly lends itself to the visual aspects of your wedding. Kinnity castle in Offaly is also a great place and similar in theme.

Thanks DDigital- i went to see the venue last week and thought the bedrooms very very rundown and in need of redecoration??

anyone else got any views on kilkea castle as a prospective wedding venue?

I djed at a wedding after the Kaye twins recently and whilst the room is nice and quite roomy there were problems with the power supply when I set up causing the power to shut off in the middle of a song. It would suggest they need to spend some money on electircal work.

Ive been a guest at 3 weddings there in the past 2 years. Rooms ok - didnt pay much attention tbh. Food is great. Nice authentic feel to the place. Overall Id consider it a good venue.

It has the wow factor from the outside. Food is good, rooms only OK for the price, service patchy.
If you want to impress people it certainly 'looks' good. I actually found it a bit cold and musty, but I'm not a castle-y kind of person anyway.

I was a guest at a wedding in Kilkea and thought it was most over-rated as a venue. Food was reasonable..nothing to write home about...the function room was lovely however the grounds were unkept..lawns needing cutting and flower beds needed to be seen to...our bedroom was an absolute disgrace for the money we paid...which in itself was scandelous...far nicer venues around in my opinion...each to their own!!good luck

Did anyone else know that Kilkea Castle is shut down since March 2010!!
I was on their website lots of time lately checking it as a possible venue for my wedding next year, but there was no mention of it being closed anywhere.
So I took the day off work and traveled with family to visit it today only to find it completely closed up:(
