    Hi,

I've never claimed tax back before and am using PAYE online.

I clicked on flat rate requests for 2006 when I was working in the Retail sector and it said I could make a request for 121, what proof do I need to claim this? I'm working in a kind of office based job since 2007 so i can't claim anything back from that as its not listed in the drop down box?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You don't need any proof just claim it. You won't get 121 though if I remember rightly but 121 x tax rate.

I'm gonna try claim for rent relief, I also have a lot of medical fees to claim back!

With prescriptions how do I claim? I must of spent about €200-250 on stuff in the last 2 years, do I need receipts? Don't have most of 'em..

if you use the same pharmacy all the time they should be able to give you annual printoffs of what you paid.......just thinking maybe the next week or two is not the best time to go asking for them :(

you don't have to have receipts to claim but you do need to be able to produce them if requested. So if you know where you purchased you could go ahead and make the claim and follow up on receipts later.

Well I put in claims for flat rate taxes for 3 years employment in retail sector and various other health /hospital and rent claims..

and I've received a total of €44 back.
I've never claimed before , is this surely all I'm entitled to? Can i ring and query this?

sounds a bit low but did u pay much tax through the three years. The reliefs are only there to avail of a refund of tax paid. You can only get a refund against what you paid. ie medical expenses wont get you a big refund if you didnt pay much tax in the first place

If you wanna pm me the details on the assessment i can calcultae it for you if u'd like

I wonder - I put in a few separate claims - are they being dealt with separately and that I should receive the rest over the next few days?

Well I worked full time for 3 years in the retail sector before moving to a diff area, so I guess I would of paid enough tax, but then again I could be wrong.

In what I have seen the years are dealt with separately. On the slip that comes with your cheque you might see a reference year. They won't neccessarily be in date order either.

Is there any reason why you believe you are entitled to tax back on expenses related to your job? I don't know why you would be entitled to Euro121 relief in the first place.

There are details of agreed flat rate expenses here

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/employee-expenses.html

But if you don't fall into one of the categories mentioned on the Excel spreadsheet then you have no entitlement to relief for flat rate expenses. As others have pointed out the amount stated is a relief, not a credit. So it is the amount multiplied by your marginal tax rate that you will be entitled to a refund for if you are eligible for the relief.

Irish income tax works on self assessment, so if you claim a relief that you are not entitled to, then you are liable for the error not the Revenue Commissioners.
