Zombie Survival Scenario #...?

Ok, I'm going to base this one off my current predicament.*

You're living in interior Alaska in a small cabin in the woods. The nearby town has over 800 people mainly employed by the national park service and the local coal mine. Usually such an isolated place would be out of the way of a zombie infection but here's the catch: Nearby Denali national park attracts thousands of visitors every summer, most of them come by cruise ship to the coast and get the train up to the tourist town of glitter gulch near the park which is 10miles from your cabin.

Recently, dozens of tourists have been stricken by a mysterious virus that is brought up here by the cruise ships and these tourists are in turn infecting the workers who live in your town. Currently, over 50 people are quarantined (it's true). So as the Z virus spreads, do you

(A)Hole up in your cabin with your .22lr and 500rounds. You have lots of food and water and one of your neighbours has a veritable arsenal with lots of ammo but you are only 2miles from the compound with the infected workers (over 400 hundred employees live there)

(B)Get your axe, your gun and your pack and head out into the bush and try to live off the land (maybe in the old trapping cabin 20miles away?)

(C)Band up with the heavily armed local population who are definitely a little bit crazy living up here all these years. Food will run out quickly once the winter sets in and you only know one or two locals well.

Either choose one of the above or tell us, what would YOU do?

******Real life non-athletic zombie rules apply******

Feel free to add sub-scenarios if it makes it more interesting.

    (B) make for the trapping cabin. the longer you wait, the more likely that the cabin will become occupied.

    (A) may also work, but start building your defences, and secure your neighbour's aresnal.

500 Rounds is not enough for the ~800 and ~1000 tourists.

definitely not option (c): you're not a long term local and they'll either turn on you, use you as bait or eat you.
they also stand a higher chance of being overrun [by staying in town]

I would call to neighbour and steal, buy, beg borrow as much ammo as possible, then I would head into the wild.

Making sure I had a map, compass, flint and a good knife, a rucksack with warm clothes etc and my weapon and ammo.

I would want to be as far away from other humans (infection carriers) as possible. Once winter comes you can come down from the mountain and check to see the state of play.

It would be tough, but hey, only the tough will survive come Z day

Problem with the trapping cabin is that it is very isolated and the only natural food source is wild game and the blueberries that are out this time of year. Survival in winter would be impossible for you or me by ourselves, you would need a teammate or two or a hoard of food. The food would be hard to come by in huge amounts apart from the communal bunch we have already because the nearest grocery store is a 2 and half hour drive.

I think 500 rounds would be enough as I don't intend on killing every single zombie in the area, I'll leave that to the locals.

I like Micky's idea of going into the bush until winter sets in and then coming back to town to see what the situation is.

Blow up the cruse ship. That act of terrorism will drive away all the tourists and possibly some of the town locals leaving only the gun touting maniacs who'll be more than willing to go on a killing spree. It will also bring in well armed government types with all the ammunition you'll ever need.

Get your axe, your gun and your pack and head out into the bush and try to live off the land (maybe in the old trapping cabin 20miles away?)

hide out here till the army comes!!

    then get out of alaska!!

you should be safe out here for a few weeks as the zombies will not find you and that should give the government enough time to get stuff sorted out!!

Are there any reasonably sized boats / yachts / etc down at the port/dock/etc. What is the fish situation like there?

I would think about hooking up with somebody with a boat, stocking it up, and heading out a mile or two. Make sure to take a reasonable amount of fuel for both the boat and generators, a method of distilling sea water, and of course a radio. Before the outspread reaches a critical point, try to keep as close to docks as possible to refule. But far enough away that the distance may discourage others from swimming out to you. Once the outbreak reaches it's critical point move down the shore away from the town. Occasionally making trips inland to do a bit of hunting and scavaging.

That's a good idea cactus. The main problem is getting to the coast around the main highway as that is where the highest concentrations of zombies are. If I could get to the coast, there are lots of salmon and herring there to fish.

I would only do this if the situation got really, really bad as the trek to the coast itself would be dangerous.
