psp is very good to keep you busy while travelling.
They are worth it. There are plenty of good games, and you can often find good games for good prices too.
I have one a couple of years.

have you a ps3? I hear they work together nicely. Not sure though as don't have a PSP

Considering the PSP has some excellent games and also plays music and video I can't think of a better portable device to keep you busy whilst travelling. For me the size of the screen gives the PSP an advantage over a DSi or an iPod Touch. Just make sure you get a big enough memory card to store all your stuff on it.

I'd recommend a DS over the PSP for games. It simply has more games and better ones. The PSP has video playing functions but they are finnicky and I never use them.

I've had a DS for years and think its great.

However I just got a PSP (€79 second hand in gamestop), and I really like it.
Buying a console that has been out for 4 years (in some form or other) means that there is a large library of great games that are new and fresh to me.

The PSP Go is coming out in a few months so maybe you should hold on for that.

Really? Maybe you need to update your firmware or something Retr0 because the PSP is the least finnicky portable media player I've used. Features like 'scene search' are testament to that. There's even plenty of free and easy to use software to convert videos files for use on it.

It's €250 though, I mean that might be a bit much for some people.

And it's only 16gb which isnt much in todays standards.

Had my PSP for couple of years now. Brilliant device and worth every single penny. Some fantastic games for a portable also at a very good price.:) Win win imo.

True that, but it has a memory card slot so you could expand it by a further 16GB. Most PSP games are about 1GB or less, so you'd easily fit 16 games on it at least, probably some music and a few videos as well. They're probably going for the older portable using crowd - the same demographic willing to pay big for the iPod Touch - and that would explain the price. There are rumours it comes bundled with a download code for a game though so for me that would make €250 a bit easier to swallow.

To be honest I don't think the PSP Go! is worth it. The control scheme looks cramped, no second analogue stick, smaller (iPhone) sized screen. It's the fourth refresh of the PSP, and still they don't answer what gamers want. Just give me a PSP 1000 with a 16gb stick anyday.

I'm just too lazy and have absolutely no interest in using it this way. I bought it for games which it's good at apart from the battery life but the DS is just leagues ahead in terms of it's library of quality titles.

Got a PSP about 5/6 years ago. I can honestly say it is the best "gadget" I ever bought. It has been used regularly from day one. It has a great range of games. But I used it a LOT for watching videos when I commuted by bus. Perfect picture on a decent sized screen. Is amazingly handy for holidays also. Put loads of videos on it and a good few books. Means you have everything you need for travelling/relaxing on one small device.

I now use it as an e-book reader and it is perfect for this also. Turn the backlight down to min and it is perfect for reading. I must have read about 6 books on it in the last month.

And I never even put homebrew on mine which would allow me to do more with it if I wanted to. Can't recommend it highly enough.
