If anyone is doing Creative Digital Media in ITB, starting September 09, wants a heads up on the sort of thing you will doing next year check out some of our work here. Visual Language was the first semester and MM Authoring was the second semester.

Greatest course ever. So much fun last year. Lecturers were really helpful.

    My blog is here.

Any questions on the course, i'm happy to help. :D

hi there i'm on boyfriends login, thanks for that link, its brill. really helps with what to expect. what dates do the course start? and what are the hours like? do you really love it? is it more practical?

You should get your registration info in the post soon. I start back the 14th but I think the first years will be back a bit earlier for an introduction to the college and stuff.

Timetable is grand, i think it was around 30 hours a week. Can't really remember lol.

Seriously best course ever. It's all mostly project work. Only 3 exams in the first semester and 1 exam in the second semester out of 10 subjects. The rest of your grades are continuous assessment. (Your work is graded through out the year). Only bad subject was personal development but everyone in the college has to do that.

All the work is mac based. Strongly suggest you invest in getting a macbook. Makes life so much easier but it's not essential.

    This is the lab

Anything else feel free to ask.

I cant wait to start this course Ive heard great things about it. How indepth does the photography section of the course go and is there much flash/actionscript being thought on the course?

Yeah everyone gets along really well. Our year was split into 2 groups for labs but are altogether for lecturers.

The photography is mainly in the 1st semester. Its just the basics of digital photography, shutter speeds, aperture etc. You build up a portfolio my the end of the semester. A few class trips out too. We went to the Botanic Gardens last year.

Only touched a bit on actionscript in the second semester but going to be doing it this year in-depth.

Did the Mac Labs get 20+ More Mac's ? Or are they all squashed on the table for the photo? Cause it was tight enough with them as they were!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Poache182

Thats just when they got them, they were all on the same table. The lab is still the same.

cool I cant wait to start 1st year on Thursday week:) Anyone know whats the story with the work placement in 3rd year, does it run from January till May and do you have to find the work placement yourself or is it given to you by the college? DCU and Tallaght IT dropped the work placement from their multimedia/CDM courses due to the current difficulty in getting work placements.

yea, the macs got squished :D
... oh, but we'll get a new mac lab this year - excited much ? -- yea, better be :D

What does a presentation actually consist of?

You're question is a bit vague. A presentation can consist of anything. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presentation

Does anyone know of how the graduates get on when the course is finished? I know on Qualifax this is what they say about job prospects:

"Employment opportunities exist in web development, animation, communications, multi-media design, e-commerce, education, games, media distribution, mobile media technologies, multimedia production to name a few. If you want to become a website designer, animator or a general digital media manager, then this is the course for you, especially if you could see yourself running your own business."

But does anyone know of people going on to do any of these kind of jobs after this course?

I don't think the course is old enough to have graduates in industry yet.

I'm open to correction on this.

Correct, the course started last year so the first batch are just finishing second year. IMO the course is deffo varied enough to open up multiple employment prospects. unfortunately for me I asked myself the very same question this time last year and elected to go for Computing for that exact reason. now that I've seen the depth of the CDM course i really wish I'd of gone for that

Similar to myself. I'm applying this year and have CDM as my first choice followed by Computers and then (and don't ask) a business course. Being debating if I should use the change of mind form and change the order of choice but after reading here I'm sticking with CDM as number 1. Role on July 7th:D

Can everyone stop changing it to their first preference course. There is not enough places to go around and I want one more than the rest of you:D

Ah no. Great to see a course is so popular and plenty of people choosing to go back to colege. I'm guessing a lot of mature students will be knocking around.

Mature students...you won't feel like a mature student if/when you start the course!

Another mature one. We will slowly take over haha. I'm really looking forward to it. Nervous as hell but very excited to be doing something I know I'm going to enjoy. It might not actually feel like going back to college.

Yes it'll work as NTFS. That capability was introduced in Mac OS X 10.3.

Assuming the college are up to date. Never been in the mac lab.
