    Hi Folks,

Myself and some friends want to buy a good HRM watch + as a present for a guy who has started doing Triathlons. We are looking for a Polar 625x

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy from (online or bricks and mortar)?
I've tried Snow and Rock and they don't have it, 53Degrees N could order it but want €400, have seen it online for €265.

    TIA

I suppose I should add for Bricks and Mortar I'm based in Dublin.

Cycle Superstore in Tallaght have it fro €260 http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=189&idproduct=6022

    Can anyone beat that?

A UK site says that the S625X is obsolete now and recommends the impressive looking (though expensive) RS800CX.

I bought my S625X at amazon.com (a friend visiting from US brought it to me).

New stuff isn't compatible with any of the other gadgets and toys you might like (threadmills, power meters etc)

    Hi Daymo,

    Thanks for the reply.

The RS800CX is outside our budget, and at that price we would probably go for the Garmin Forerunner 310XT.

Perhaps because the 625x is no longer being made, we are getting a good deal at €260? I hear this is a really good device - so still worth getting?

Any recommendation for a similar HRM device at a MAX budget of €270? (Original budget was €240) Needs to be good for both running and bike we know that he will need to buy the bike add-ons for the 625x himself ;-) How about Suunto? I like their stuff but don't know if their HRMs are any good.

What about a Garmin Forerunner 310xt? It does HR stuff too I think

I'd like to hear any impressions myself on anyone who has one

    Hi MCOS,

In our case the cost of the 310xt is prohibitive.

Other negatives I've read are the battery life (having to charge often), the larger size and the distance measurement not working in the Gym.

Advantage is, distance accuracy and getting data on the Swim, but I wonder how well this works with an arm mount? Reports on distance accuracy of foot pods vary greatly.

I guess the pro v cons weight up differently for different people.

I've had mine 4-5 years, changed the battery once.

Hi, I have a 625X for three years and have yet to change the battery on the watch or the HRM strap although I feel that the strap will need a change soon. The foot pod battery needs a battery (AAA) change after 18/20 hours.

I have to say that it has not let me down in this time and provides good data for all my runs. You will need an infra red connection to upload your data to your pc. An additional cost you may not be aware of if your friends pc does not have one.

Its distance and elevation data while probably not as accurate as the garmins is still as accurate as I need it to be. The 5 & 10 mile Addidas races last year came in 0.1 of the respective distances.

I haven't used it on the bike so can't advise on this.

Yes these poor Garmin folks having to buy batteries. Saying that my 800CX is cool but I had to change the GPS battery after 40 hours of use. Thankfully I have a footpod as well for emergencies.

do you not have to charge the 625 battery at all no? I wont be needing to change any as its built in with the GPS too

I have a 625x which I'm willing to sell for any reasonable offer. Used for a year - great condition (some small scratches) & comes with HRM, footpod and TWO bike sensors!

Great watch - battery life on watch isn't a prob as it's measured in years : ) Battery life of footpod is about 100 miles from memory, but it does depend on quality of batteries used.
