Best film I've seen a in a long while. Even if you're not a trekkie, you'll enjoy this. And at that price, its a giveaway. Although I'd be more inclined towards the blu ray which isn't cheap:(

Definitely want to order this, however I haven't heard of the website. Some negative reviews on ciao. Anyone use them before?

I have had no problems ordering from them.

    Post is free to Ireland.

Eightyfish: have ordered a good bit of stuff off them over the years and never had any problems. Just ordered a documentary (in the shadow of the moon) off them, no problems.

I was well willing to get the blu ray version of star trek, and pay the extra few quid. But with the dvd at this price, it's WAY more expensive to get the blu ray version.

    Mmmmm

There's going to be a two disc DVD too, which is the one I'll be getting cause the extras sound pretty cool :)

Thanks. I'd much rather the double-disc too. Cancelled the ordered (processed no problem).

Going on this thread, why do so many people still buy DVDs when the high definition equivalent, i.e. Blu-ray, is available? Considering so many people are buying all these cheap HDTVs listed in Bargain Alerts, and Blu-ray players are under €200 now, there doesn't seem to be a huge reason to go with DVD; excluding the difference in price, as the difference is definitely worth it.

Let's not try to make a discussion out of this.. it doesn't belong here. But there are a few reasons:

    1. €200 for a Blu-ray player is good.. but not everyone sees the benefit in paying it when they've a DVD player that's "just fine".
    2. Unless you have a 37" or higher HD TV, you may as well stick with DVD.
    3. Unless you have a great sound system to back up the Blu-ray player, I'd say stick with DVD.
    4. The media is still quite pricey - you can anywhere between €3 - €15 for a DVD (depending on whether the release is new). But best of luck finding a Blu-ray for under €25 - no matter how new or old - in most bricks 'n' mortars shops. Ireland is still very expensive for Blu-ray - bought the Blu-ray of Death Proof for €10 and the Blu-ray of Planet Terror for €15 in Germany last week.. that's was in a chain store whose large Blu-ray selection was mostly between €16 - €20.

    I'm still buying DVD's because they're cheaper but I'm willing to pay a bit more for a Blu-ray (€10 - €15 tops).

I can see where these people are coming from though.

I didn't want to start a discussion either, I was just curious as to the reasoning behind a lot of Boards users still buying DVDs, especially since there has been plenty of opportunity here on Bargain Alerts to cheaply upgrade to high definition equipment.

While I understand most of your points, I'd have to disagree with point 2. As an owner of a 32" full HD TV, the difference between DVD and Blu-ray/HD-DVD is definitely appreciable.

Thanks for the reply basquille. ;)
