    Hi

I am thinking about completing a M.Phil in Applied Linguistics sometime in the next few years. I am wondering what is the difference between the applied linguistic course and the linguistic course in tcd.

I am undecided whether I should do this course full time or part-time and wonder how others found the work load?

Although I have a major interest in this course I wonder is it worthwhile and what job prospects are there with this course?

I know that these are alot of questions but if someone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks:)

I'm an undergrad in the linguistics department (among others...), so here's what I know.

    Applied Linguistics vs Linguistics:
Applied has more of a focus on language acquisition/language teaching. While it does cover the interesting stuff like semantics, phonetics, syntax and pragmatics, the focus is much more on acquisition. M.Phil in Linguistics would be far more theoretical (If you're not versed in stuff like Formal Semantics, you could find it tough).

Regards workload, I really don't know! Possibly the course handbook may enlighten you!

As for job opportunities, well, I'm looking at academia...
