Hi. I'm hoping someone can give some advice as to what I should do. My rings are 18ct white gold and I can't wear them as they make my finger come out in a rash and itchy and in fact they eventually crack and bleed. I'm very upset about this as of course I want to wear them. Does anyone know if I should get them replated in another metal (platinum)? If so, how much would that cost? Or is there any other type of metal that I wouldn't be allergic to? I've always been 'funny' with jewellery but I've never worn jewellery for any length of time to realise how bad it could be. Am hoping some jewellers might see this!

Sorry to ask the obvious ... but did you have this problem when you had just the engagement ring, or did it only start when you bought the wedding ring?

In the meantime try coating the part that rests beside your skin in clear nail polish.

no, the problem was with the engagment ring but its worse with the added wedding ring. i've ended up taking both off! it's taken my finger weeks to heal.

It's possibly a type of nickel allergy...check this out:

But most of all, get to your GP and get a referral to a dermatologist. They'll know for sure.
