I see Tiger is spitting on tee boxes and greens.

    It is disgusting.

Will anything be done about it?

Probably not. It's like trying to discipline Alex Ferguson. We have created a monster.

another anti-tiger article. Personally i don't like it and don't want to see it but i can guarantee that he's not the only one. The amount of camera's watching him on the golf course makes it inevitable that he's caught in the act.

He could have a tissue or hanky to avoid the spitting act. He's in the public eye after all but I suppose when all is said and done, if that's the only wrong thing he does, we'd certainly forgive him.

He was bang out of order. Spitting on a green is far from acceptable, no matter who you are. Accepted there are cameras on him all the time but if he wants to spit he should make some attempt to conceal the action and not on a green where other players are going to have to putt and play across.

I also remember reading, i think in one of John Feinstein's books, that there is a swear jar in the locker room each week and Woods is the highest contributor to it nearly every week he plays.

Anyway, why does he need to spit in the first place?

Agree it's disgusting. But it's brought up so often and the only course of action people take is to b*tch. Especially commentators, Howard Clark in particular. Funny thing is, as a player himself he was one of the worsed behaved imo. Always complaining, giving out to his caddie, face like a bull. I'd rather see a bit of hocking now and then than have to watch that.

did he realy spit on the green ??? if he did then its not forgiveable its just plain disgusting no matter who he is . tiger is the best player by far but there were great players before him and there will be great players after him ,no man is bigger than the game ! he should cop him self on . if you were playing with your weekly 4ball and one of them spat on the green would you turn a blind eye? i for one would not:mad:

Being a bit discreet about it is diffcult with cameras constantly in your face. Spitting on a green however is just plain disgusting and an insult to fellow players who have to put on the green after you.

Nice to have to explain to your playing partners in the following group, "hey guys, is it OK to repair Tigers gozzy?"

all the kids watching him all over the world are now spitting everywhere,

Sergio did it back in 2007 and the interviewer afterwards had no problem pulling him up on it!

Garcia spat into the cup. And the commentator was dead right to pull him up on it. What's your point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭maddogcollins

My point is just because it Tiger Woods he wont get pulled up over it!Any other golfer, there is no problem asking him about it. no matter if its in the cup or on the green..either way its spitting!

Mountain out of a molehill. What he did was human. The same people slating him are prob the same people that urinate multiple times a round in bushes at their home course.
Whats "disgraceful" and "should not be tollerated" in golf is players not shouting fore off the tee when they know its going to clatter someone. Sergio Garcia springs to mind last nite. Hope that lad never wins again.

Well at least you are not wearing your Tiger Woods glasses....
Tiger doesnt shout fore either as he is usually too busy beating his tee into the ground or taking a swipe at something.

There is a huge difference between choosing to spit on the green and "choosing" to urinate when there are no facilities available.

Yea I agree with you there. Tiger is prob the worst player of all for not shouting fore. Inexcusable in my opinion. A bit of spitting isnt nearly as bad. Not pleasant either but not a major problem by any means.

Its amazing to see Tiger getting so angry with himself on the tee though. He's the worlds best player by a mile yet he cannot hit the ball straight down the middle. Always ends up going right on him. Think Hank Haney may get the boot if it continues but then again it must be hard listening to peoples advice on what you are doing wrong when you are a better player than they will ever be.

    so why wasn't tiger asked??

to here the commentators go on and on about it and never ask him is real bitchy and cowardly imo

Cause they are afraid that he wont talk to them in the future.

PGA wont say anything in case he turns his back on them.

if thats the case it should not be brought up at all,no one likes a whinger, don't you think they would gain more respect from the veiwers for being a man about it and asking him.

i know i'd respect the commentator that would ask him that question, don't like moaning whinging bitchy types........mr. clarke;)

The issue lies not with the commentators but with the players and their employers, the PGA. Their performance, behaviour and deportment are all part of a package that is both closely scrutinized and handsomely rewarded. Woods should be subject to the same standards as every other pro and the PGA should ensure that all players are aware that they have a responsibility to uphold reasonable expectations.

The fact that golf attracts a wider audience than previously achieved is terrific. That golf is no longer the private leisure activity of the upper classes is wonderful. The idea that behavioural standards now have to be lowered to meet those deemed acceptable to the sport's newest lowest common denominator is a great shame. It is unlikely that dumbing and dirtying down the game serves the best interests of anyone in the long run.

I wouldn't think too many players think of the pga as their employers, anyway your getting at my own point , if it was good enough for Sergio to be quetioned why will the same guys not tackle Tiger....thats why I'm saying they are cowards,I'm sure if Shane was gluggin' big greeners all over the tee boxes or greens he'd be called in to answer....................as Tiger should be, end of.

indeed...and when he went over to the guy who's head he had just cracked he gave him exactly 2 seconds of his time and barely a word...impetuous fellow

Also 14 to 0 on the major count gives young Eldrick extra pardons :D
