Black Sox

Just watching ESPN and the Angels are at playing the ChiSox. 1st Inning and I've already heard a mention of the Black Sox, as I do every time i see them play (not often, but every time).

i'm not a White Sox fan; I'm a Red Sox fan (with a soft spot for the Cubs) so very definitely not a White Sox fan, but i really have to say, given the revelations of drug use over the last few years, with some all time greats PROVEN cheats (Bonds, A-Rod, Manny, Papi), it really p!sses me off to see these guys reminded of a 90 year old mistake. I mean, is it still really relevant to give us the Black Sox Shpiel every time? Lets be honest, the ChiSox were only cheating themselves, not everyone else.

Opinions? (I would have put this in ranting and raving, but fear it would be lost on an Irish Website)

I have to say in 10 years watching baseball, I've not noticed it being referenced that often, but I do purposely avoid watching Sox games with the home broadcast. The reason these scandals aren't let lie is that baseball is woven into the fabric of American history. Its pretty much the longest lived thing they have as a relatively young country and has run in parallel with all of the other stuff thats gone on there for the last 100+ years. For that reason people take any tainting or tarnishing of something they see as sacrosanct very seriously.

Its a huge thing in the States even after so many years. The reason being that a team deliberately lost the World Series. In all fairness thats the worst type of cheating there can possibly be in sport. Imagine being in with a shot at the biggest prize in whatever your chosen sport is/was and deciding that money was more important than winning it. I just couldn't go there under any circumstance. Its even been made a movie on numerous occasions, and I think its just the fact that Americans cannot understand how somebody could sully their national pastime like that which makes it still come to mind.

Tbh and it has nothing to do with the media, when I hear the name White Sox it comes to mind immediately.
