Everyone knows bangernomics is great until you hit the iv broken loads of stuff stage. (too much mileage)

Right now i need to fix the following on a 1.4 8v renault mcganne (102,000miles)

    -Track rod end 70euro (guess)
-Water pump (Timing belt two) 120euro
-Rattly exhaust (have not looked yet but no an NCT fail)
-Bad earth (indicator + brake + headlights = no indicator)

So i can patch it up again and im all good or should i put it down.

The reason im considering fixing it is i have very good tyres, an NCT for 2 months

So am i mad or should i look for another banger that may have new problems.

Better the devil you know I say. They're minor enough repairs to have to make at that mileage. I would have your current motor dickied up if I were you, rather than taking on a whole other set of problems with something else.

    (102,000miles)

Still a new car. Bangernomics only applies once you go over 150k. :)

Fix those probs if the car is good.

Fix her up, think the auld french/italian cars do get a horrible

slagging, but all that motor needs is a bit of work for little money

and you'll get a good few years out of it yet.

    97 Astra 1.7TD

140,000 miles-timing belt tension-er snaps off, shearing the timing belt into two pieces.

    Car a write off-or so I thought.

Talking to a Vauxhall [Opel] mechanic. The Vauxhall engine can be fixed relatively cheaply :)

If it had been an Isuzu engine, it was dead.

    New Timing Belt Kit £80

    Rockers from scrapyard £20.

    Fitting £100.

    So far so good.

    20,000 miles later:

Overheating and Rad leaking. Me being an expert poured full bottle of 'Barrs Leaks' into bottle. Fixed the Rad, only too well.

Made a blockage between Rad and Fan Switch. Made the Thermostat stick, and the water pump leak.

New water pump £25. The faulty Water Pump had seized to engine block and needed heated to be removed, took some time to replace.
    Thermostat £10.
    Fan Switch £10.
    Radiator £100.

Complete new coolant system fitted £180.

    Next time, replace the car.

HAHAHA sounds like my last year and a half with what I thought would be my car for the next 5 years.

Had every problem under the sun, from window regulator problems to leaks to god you name it I had it. Spent a fortune on the car, finally traded it in today and bought this... http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mazda/Mazda6/2.0-SPOR/200924193087748/advert?channel=CARS
