    Hey All

We have a treadmill and a multi gym. I have decided to try and build up some muscle and take up running. I managed to run about 25klms last week which has even surprised myself seen as i smoke to much and have done no exercise in the last 20 years.

What i want to know is what sort of programme should i be doing regarding the multi gym. Or better again anyone got links to show what sort of exercise i should be doing on it to build muscle.

Also should i be running one day then using the gym the next day or is it better to do both on the same day and have a day of rest to let my muscles rest. Any other advice would be great on how to build myself up.

Think i am going through midlife crisis :D

    Thanks for your help.

What age are you? What you do depends on the time you have, what you're able to do comfortably, what you want to achieve etc....

Could you ask a local gym instructor to set a programme for you privately....to actually call to your house and go through it with you....that way you will have a set programme and will be able to see your progress ....you will need to call him back after a while to tweak the programme or change/increase bits of it, according to your wants....

I do impact (running) and non impact(eliptical, cycling) aerobic exercise every second day alternately...

....with regard to weight work, I have a set of weights and a bench press....
...I made my own programme up based on a programme I got done for me in a gym a few years ago......
....when I work out I do upper body set, then lower body set... then upper body again etc some people like to do all upper body today and lower tomorrow etc , but I prefer to mix it up....

I also incorporated some back exercises into my routine and exercises to strengthen my middle/back area that I got from a physio.....
    ..
...it all depends on what you want to achieve/time you have to spend regularly/what exercises you like to do.....
If you haven't had a programme done for you before I think you should get some personal trainer/gym instructor etc to do your first one......

    Hope that helps!

If you want a program here, you will get it, or at least get pointed in the right direction.

What are your stats, goals, whats your diet like and what exactly is on the multi-gym???

Your best bet is to start off easy. Don't do too much at the start and try and keep the workout to about 30mins. You'll be more likely to keep with it if its not a huge a ordeal to do it.

The most important thing with your weights is to keep good tecnique as this will let your muscles develop correctly. And that means not lifting to heavy at the start.

You should have a look at your posture, Chances are if you haven't exercised in a while your posture will be a little off and correcting this is your first step. Its probably not what you want to hear but if you correct your posture you'll look and fell much better straight away.

If you've any questions let me know

    Thanks All

I have been running about 3kms and then doing about 30mins work out on the gym every second night. I have ordered a bar for chin ups and sit ups seeing as every where i look they say they are the two most important things to be doing. Got to say my diet is bad and i drink to much and smoke way to much. Having said that i am amazed that i can run 3kms seeing that i have not exercised in such a long time.

    Thanks again
