My gums have been bleeding a fair bit recently and upon closer inspection, it looks like my gums are receeding.

Anybody know what would be causing this and is there anything I can do to make them, 'grow' back?

don't think there's anything to make them grow back, but one of the docs will correct me if I'm wrong. And to stop them:

    get your teeth cleaned

    floss

    that's my advice :)

    Correct teebs.
Go and have an examination with your dentist and get some oral hygiene instruction. Nothing to be embarrassed about either. Ninety-nine percent of the population don't brush their teeth correctly, never mind floss and use mouthwash.

    Do it.

There is a way to get lost tissue back, but it is by grafting from a donor site somewhere else in the mouth, usually the palate.

How could it be hygiene related?

Best to visit an oral Hygienist to get a good clean. As one poster said, a lot of the population suffer from some form of dental problem re: cleaning. I myself had gum disease. I started to floss a lot more regularly and used listerine twice a day. It refrained from the gum disease deteriorating but to rectiy this you need proper dental cleaning. They will also be able to tell you what you have been doing wrong and show you how to clean in future. It can cost anything from 40-80e but it is well worth it

    only €80?? Really?

I've been putting off going to the dentist with my bleeding gums for ages because I thought it would cost a small fortune to get anything done with my gums!

I also have problems with recceding gums, and have been to the hygenist and dentist many times, the main cause is brushing too hard/ aggressivly, should brush slow and gentle, and always use a "soft" brush, better still electronic brushes are supposed to be the best, and no they wont grow back, unfortunily!
