Placing to Win - Horses

Has anyone ever tried placing numerous favourites for long term low return profit.

    I'd be talking about a steady 15% - 20% ROI overtime.

I've been following this for the last 2 days with good results so far on a spreadsheet only. I know it's a VERY small sample and early days, but I intend to keep this up for a few weeks before taking the plunge and investing real money.

So far my real money gambling leaves me frustratingly breaking even or maybe up 1% :D over time. So I've developed a new way of selecting and placing only.

Does anyone else do this with any success in the long term.

    Cheers,

    V

7 for 7 today so far. looking good.

    Nobody else try this??

I'm really interested in others opinions who have tried this for the long term, and what if any success they had.

    What are the pitfalls?

    Cheers,

    V

    What?

    I'm not giving tipping advice.

I'm asking opinions on strategy and the pitfalls of doing this.

    What's with the cold shoulder..

The last I read this was the gambling forum, not the tipping forum, unless I read something wrong somewhere.

I have been looking into it as a means to having a higher strike rate and lees toll on the emotions due to long losing streaks. I would like to generate 10 points profit a month, but I would need a strike rate of 60% with an average price of evens to get this. I think this is doable if you stick to all age handicaps with 12 runners or less and use basic form reading to select your choices, but also do not be afraid to have no bets if you feel there is a negative abnout the best horse in a race.
I used to always think if you put in the work and think a horse is going to win then you should go and back it to win, but that has changed for me now. Use what ever method that makes you more comfortable.

Not having a go, just wondering what sort of prices you are talking about.
Any way of winning is a good 1.

Okay, it was your "7 from 7" that set me off, looked like a bit of "hey I'm great" aftertiming. Dutching is something I've never really looked at finding the right races is an art in itself. Maybe you should post up the races in question so we can see how you do. :)

It's the over time bit that will be hard, how much time have you got ? You really need to be betting each race just before the off, and it will get frustrating over time (unless you're retired with a notebook in front of tv set)...i tried before to back all fav ew in 16+ handicaps and all 2nd fav's ew in 7-15 handicaps, and did it for a week. was in small profit, but it depends on your stake, my bets were small, and i got bored, there are easier ways to make money i guess, like working ! I was on holiday, so it was ok. You may be 5-10% up, but bookies never lose, do it for a few weeks and if it works they'll close your account ! Discipline and consistency is the key, and they are easier said than done......:)

Dead Fair on that, but bragging rights will be reserved for when I am using real money. :D:D Right now spreadsheet only as I have no idea how this will pan out.

And ghostown I think you are right. It may become boring, sitting looking for the gaps, and yes I make more money from working if using small stakes. I still find it interesting that it can be done.

I wouldn't be your traditional gambler. I have no interest in the horses, their form, the race or anything, only the potential of returning on an investment. Might anger some here, but that's me. It's only an investment strategy.

I'm working off what I can see in the figures only, so maybe there is my advantage, as I have no bias towards particular horses/trainers. I am coming to believe that digging for statistics on horses is worthy over time, but I also believe that the market and how it forms will present those statistics in a more complete form and away from the raw data. If you get what I mean.

Good to see others have tried this too.

I'm a bit reluctant to post up any of my selections yet, maybe in time. But I'll keep this updated with a truthful outcome. If I fail I fail, If i get good at this I'm sure some people will say I'm bluffing :)

    Cheers,

    V

    Hey,

What would small bets be considered?

Need to get a grasp of what people call small betting, or does every man have his own perspective.

My idea of a small bet would be 2Euro.. now that's as small as it gets.. :)

Every man for himself on bet size... personally if betting on line, I'm inclined to bet more often but smaller, 2-5 in singles unless i really fancy it, and 0.5 - 2 in multiples, good thing about net betting is small wins still get to your account. On a Saturday when i go watch a match I'm inclined to bet bigger across the counter in bookies, but I pick in the morning. Just something about a 0.50 lucky fifteen i prefer to bet on line. Saturday is normally 10 -20 singles and I'm happy to cover a few pints and come home even ! Plus with multiples the on-line guarantee prices, whereas in bookies same guys only honour singles guaranteed...........so, 2-5 online, 10 -20 in person is your answer........:)
