Red Button... worth it without it?

I am probably the last analogue NTL person in the country. The one thing that always attracted me to changing to digital was the red button. It strikes me as the greatest thing ever, it drives me mad when tennis/golf/snooker etc. is on and you can continue to watch or see a different match by pressing the magical scarlet.

Anyway NTL doesn't offer the red button. So does anyone think it worthwhile to take up NTL's offer rather than Sky's as it looks better value, but doesn't have the interactive? At the moment I have no interest in HD (telly too old) or Sports or Movies (have the web for those) so would the red button be the killer app?

IMO not really, it is fun at the start but after a few weeks you rarely use it.

Up until recently Sky+ was the killer feature, but UPC have now somewhat dulled that with their own DVR service.

BTW UPC actually do have red button interactive on Euronews, but obviously not nearly as widespread as Sky.

Red button on BBC is really handy. Red button on Sky Sports Premiership games is really gimmicky but for their Champions League coverage it is great.

However if you are watching non-sport coverage I think it's pointless.

UPC's new HD box will allow you to use the red button on one of the channels.
It's only a very simple usage and more like glorified text but it's a start.

I agree. Only useful the odd time you need a weather forecast and cant be bothered going to a PC.

I had NTL digital for a few years but moved to sky 6 months ago, I'm not a regular red button user, but I have found it useful. All the extra F1 stuff is great, also used it a lot during glastonbury weekend. Not having it isnt a dealbreaker.

My most watched channel since I switched to sky has been FX which NTL didnt carry, and I found Sky+ to be great and very reliable. I believe there are some issues with the ntl version. I had a couple of disasterous encounters with NTL customer servicesm the couple of times I've needed to contact sky I found them to be very helpful and wasn't kept holding for too long.

Sky is more expensive but I dont think I could go back to NTL.
