Car warrantee

    Hey all,

Here's the story... I bought a second hand car at the end of June from a Main Audi dealer (the car was a Ford). Was told that the car would be perfect when it left the garage, but at the weekend just gone the Air Vent/Fans in the car stopped working (only on setting 4 they work).

Initially I was told that I have 3 months warrantee, but when I rang up today to see what they could do, they told me that the problem isn't covered by the warrantee.

Where do I stand here? Surely the fans shouldn't just stop working after a month.

I appreciate any help before I ring them back tomorrow.

Did they not give you a warrenty booklet with the car, it may be in with your service book, and it depents what warrenty they put on it, some warrenty only covers engine and gearbox.

No i didn't get a booklet, he just said I've 3 months. He didn't say it was specific to gearbox and engine.

I just thought that fans shouldn't just go like that. Would it be something as simple as a fuse? I've little knowledge with things like that.

warrinty all depends on the value of the vehicle!
the problem is likely to be a sensor on the side of the heater box that controls the speeds.

Garage warranty is always engine and transmission only.
Unless you bought an extended one.

Always get those stuff in writting.

Anyways, your issue is probably minor.

Sorry to hear how badly you are being treated there. Just goes to show how little these warranties are worth.

The issue with the fan only working on the highest speed setting is a relatively easy one to fix though at least. It's almost certainly caused by a faulty resistor pack and shouldn't cost much to fix, although it might be a little difficult to get to if it's positioned somewhere awkwardly in the dashboard.

If it was bought from a main dealer then you should have gotten a used car invoice receipt. Usually on this it is written by the dealer what is covered under the used car warranty.

My guess is that your warranty covers engine and gearbox only rather than bumper to bumper which covers everything.

+1, I'd say it's this too. It was underneath the glove box in my Fiesta, not sure it's in a similar place in other Fords but is a common fault.

Unfortunately in my case all the fan speeds continued to work but the resistors overheated and burned the surrounding plastic, filling the cabin with smoke

if you get it fixed make sure to replace the pollen filter as well!! because the filter gets clogged up and then the restistor burns out from the lack of air flowing across it to keep it cool. shouldn't cost 50 euro for parts and about 30mins to sort out!

Thanks for all ye're help! I'll check the documents I got from the garage and see what that says.
