    Hi all,
This may not be the correct forum but I need some advice. Its not for me(at the moment) but a band I know very well are in the process of recording a demo of about 5 of their songs. It will be finished shortly. There are 4 players in the band each putting up an egual amount of money into the recording.
And hey presto they have that long awaited demo.Lets say they get 200 copies, now what do they do.......sell them at the gigs?.........do they make a joint bank acc and lodge the money?
Or do they take 50 cds each, having paid up their share for makin and copying of the demo and sell them to whoever and get their money back for themselves, hoping to do it all over again?
If they want to send copies to Music producers etc out of whose share do they come out of?
Suddenly making the cd seems easy and the distribution looks hard.Is it a matter of trust and agrement.I hear one of the lads wants to give them away for free.I would personally listen to a cd if I paid for it.....might not if I got it for free(think irish mail free cds versus paying for one)

Any Advice from bands who have been through this would much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    well,

having heard some awful stories about bands and their money arrangements, i've come to the conclusion that the best approach is to each pay for the recording and cd's (and any other band expenses) equally, and just see it as a personal expense, that money now belongs to the band bank account. (also, because realistically if you aren't willing to put money into your band to get ahead, then why should anybody else?)

Then, sell the cd's at gigs, throw a few into the music stores that will take them, send a few off to promoters or whatever, take a few each for mementos, and then any money that gets received for the cd's goes into the band bank account (or shoebox). This way a band fund can build up and maybe pay for the next cd without costing you's anything, personally. Any money you may get paid for a gig, put it in the band fund too. This way, some things can be payed for out of "profits".

But each to their own, i suppose.
