One Dish, Four TVs

We live on the East coast and we currently have a roof aerial which picks up BBC/ITV/CHN4 from Wales which is split between the four Tvs in our house, but apparently all analogue Welsh transmitters are shutting down later this month (August) which will leave us with RTE/TV3 only :(

Question: We plan to get a satellite dish to cover the loss of the Welsh channels & to gain a lot more too, but how do we feed our four TVs with only one satellite dish? (3 of the TVs are bog standard 14" sets) with just one 32" LCD.

you need to get a 4 way LNB splitter. most Sat website would stock them.

And then you'll need to drop 4 seperate cables from the dish to the tv's, which is the hard part. Then you'll need 4 satellite boxes which is the expensive part.

Is your 32" television capable of receiving Freeview?

That won't work. Those are for Quattro + Multiswitch systems.

You need a Quad output LNB.

When the Welsh signal is turned off this year you might be able to pick up their Freeview signal giving you a bit better a selection of channels that you would get free on satellite. Maybe a masthead and amp may need to be added to, depending on the quality of your signal. How good are your analogue pictures currently? Do you know which Welsh transmitter you are receiving at the moment?

Satellite has a much bigger selection than Freeview DTT, though DTT has a few channels on free that are NOT free on Satellite.

    Thats interesting!

I dont know what Welsh transmitter we are receiving from, but the current signal is typical East coast (brilliant during high pressure weather) and pretty snowy (appalling) reception during low pressure weather. I had never even considered picking up the Welsh 'Freeview' without a dish!

I still cant undrstand why they are getting rid of the perfectly good analogue signal :(

I shall make enquiries re the above, and many thanks also to all the other contributors, I think I now have enough to go on.

    Why is it happening?

He might want to install an octo LNB, if he wants to use a DVR (highly recommended) on one or more of the TV's.

A cheaper option might be to run the RF out from the satellite box in the main room to the other three rooms and use magic eye. Saves on needing to buy separate sat boxes for each room but you are limited to watching only whats on in the mai n room at any time.
