Gonna be in Cairns in a few weeks and am hoping to do a sky dive. I haven't jumped out of a plane before, so I will, I presume have to do a tandem jump. After doing a bit of research there seems to be several co's offering similar skydiving packages 9k, 12k or 14k tandem jumps all for similar prices in a variety of locations.

Have any of you done a jump in cairns?? who did you do it with and how did you find them? what in your opinion is the best location/ company to jump with??

All advice would be much appreciated...

I used to fly the jumpers out of Cairns and I reckon its a good place for a tandem, and safe.Prices are low and its very cut throat due to booking agents' commissions. Approach the company directly and ask for 10-20% off, which is what they pay the hostels, booking desks. Pauls and Skydive Cairns are the two mobs out of Cairns airport. The drop zone is in Edmonton, about 20 mins drive south.

However I suggest you go to Mission Beach. Much better drop zone, great views of Dunk Is and land back at the beach at Scotty's backpackers for a beer. Also the aircraft are turbine powered, hence much safer. Ask to fly in the Cresco.

Theres another mob,Tandem Cairns who operate out off Innisfail aerodrome, its an hour driver each way a quiet country strip, which IMHO detracts from the fun of the day.

Go the 14000 ft. Pay the extra. Its worth it.

    Enjoy

Thanks for the reply BB, your a legend, thats just the info I needed + theres at least 3 of us jumping so if we can get 10-20% off that'll be a huge saving.

Ive seen that 'Jump the Beach' seem to offer a jump over Misssion beach - so I'll get on to them and see if they'll give me a discount. If you know of any other Co.'s operating out of that drop zone pls let me know.

Will definitely be doing the 14k feet jump - I've been trying to get around to doing a jump for years so really excited about it now...:D:eek::D

Again can't thank you enough for the advice - this is a great help

will definitely give you an update when I get back - but unfortunately I'm on a very tight budget this yr and it costs $124 for the video, so i might have to give it a miss.... we'll see.... hopefully we'll be able to blag a cheaper price for it.
